S2EP92. Embracing Identity & finding ‘PRIDE’ in who you are w/ Halie Torris, Artist

H alie Torris is a contemporary artist working in oils. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended Seton Hill University where she majored in graphic design. Six months upon graduating from college and receiving her first design job, Halie picked up and moved to the eastern shore of Maryland.

After spending all of her life living in the same place, she felt a draw towards the ocean and a change of scenery to further develop her work. Solitude and isolation by the coast plays a huge role for allowing in the flow of new ideas.

Through her knowledge in the digital realm of design as well as in the fine arts, she aims to merge the two mediums in her paintings. She loves creating narratives with the figures in her work using symbols to express feelings that go below surface-level. Moving environments has helped her to distinguish her true values by peeling away layers of distraction and shifting her ideas and concepts towards the subconscious and inner stillness. The core of her work is about creating a voice and representation in the fine arts for women to love whomever they wish to and accept their own authentic stories. Currently, she is creating a body of work that expresses themes of duality, feminine energy and identity.

00:19.68
charukaarora
Yes, you were yes you were you know we are currently like interpreting um, creating the studio visit into a physical like in our digital format for the website and then also working on the studio visit book. So and it’s such a perfect time and because we are releasing your studio visit in the coming week.

00:29.29
Halie
Um, yeah.

00:37.14
Halie
No I’m excited I Want to see it all. The timing is is working out perfectly. Yeah, no pressure I’m doing Well um I just got into actually my new studio space. So I would do a completely different. Ah.

00:38.96
charukaarora
And we’re recording this today. Yeah, we good me pressure. Yes, how how are you doing.

00:52.59
charukaarora
Um, yes.

00:56.90
Halie
Video now. But ah yeah, just been creating doing prints selling work pride month last month was super busy. So I’m just keeping my keeping level headed now catching up a little bit.

01:03.90
charukaarora
Um, yes, yes. How? how does it feel the pride months almost like we’re on none of July today None whole month. How has yeah.

01:16.35
Halie
I know I know I was kind of sad when I woke up today because I was like oh it’s over, but it’s okay, we can continue continue the pride month all months. Yes, exactly no I was in New York last or not last week two weeks at

01:28.19
charukaarora
Tried life.

01:36.12
Halie
Two weekends ago I wanted to be there for pride but it’s just you can feel the energy like throughout the month and I definitely felt it when I was there so it was nice.

01:44.10
charukaarora
Forget tell me something what is PRIDE to you.

01:49.69
Halie
Pride to me I wrote a poem about it actually at the beginning because I was trying to think of like what it actually means to me because I’m not like I I Sometimes think of pride as like yelling or screaming and like you know, being loud about. Um, who you are and I see it is like very subtle like little subtle moments. Um that I experience where I’m like being myself authentically and it doesn’t necessarily have to be you know Super super loud about It. You can just be proud of who you are. Um, and very like soft moments or day-to-day. Moments. So pride is more ah I find I Found a lot of pride like within my work. Um and expressing myself in that way because I wasn’t like the loudest growing up. So.

02:36.10
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

02:43.84
Halie
I Find pride in a lot of different areas but it doesn’t necessarily have to be like a very loud I don’t know loud version of it.

02:47.53
charukaarora
Yeah, no I Completely agree I think I can relate to that I think for me also I think pride I think it’s also an after feeling like I don’t know how to isolate like I think when you. Felt the pressure of you know, not being able to express yourself Accepts yourself you know or being bottled down in whichever fear or whichever form and then once you go beyond that step and come out of that bubble that sense Even if ah, you know.

03:16.43
Halie
Um, yeah, um.

03:26.88
charukaarora
Let’s say for me a lot of times like when I try to do anything like um, let’s say I’m I’m extremely um, that’s I’m extremely scared of driving and after my mom I was like because when you you have like some kind of trauma your fears elevate like issue to the roof. So I had that with me in most part of my life and I realized like even when I was just taking None step None step forward into something that really mattered to me. But I I felt bottled up and I felt scared.

04:02.00
Halie
Are.

04:03.19
charukaarora
And I made some progress I would always feel that that sense of accomplishment and that that sense of try that I can I think just the so much more than in external factor. It feels like such an internal sense I.

04:16.34
Halie
Yes, no, it is and and like how you said like an after feeling. No I Loved how you put it because it is. It’s like when you’re sitting like my mind went to just sitting in a public space Whether it’s like a restaurant or somewhere in the world and just feeling.

04:20.93
charukaarora
I Don’t know if I’m seeing it right? yeah.

04:35.77
Halie
Just totally like authentically in your space like within yourself. Yeah, it doesn’t come from anything external. It can like obviously um, if you’re around people that are supportive or you’re in like a good space. It’s just a feeling. Yeah, but but yeah, most of it does reflect back to yourself. You know.

04:46.70
charukaarora
But even then it’s an internal I feel.

04:53.55
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

04:54.90
Halie
The the mere reflection. Um, so yeah, it’s just like a feeling of ease and like yeah and pride and being strong within yourself. So I love that.

05:01.97
charukaarora
I Think a lot of times where you’re saying even with the external validation. A lot of times I have felt a lot of times a praise have may not exactly make me feel proud like pride will like you know. Triggered that feeling of pride a lot of times I think it essentially comes about how I feel about that and what it makes me feel sometimes people would appreciate you for something that you don’t want to be recognized with let’s say or don’t want to be. You don’t see yourself in that light. How how did you.

05:30.83
Halie
Um, yeah, yeah, now it definitely all comes from within sorry.

05:38.15
charukaarora
Yeah, you know how have you celebrated tell me how how does pride month celebration look like what is as someone from the Lgbt Community What is the importance it Holds. Um. To you.

05:58.95
Halie
Gosh It’s so much like this pride month for me was like so much different than previous I don’t know if it was because of the pandemic I like didn’t I wasn’t out or I couldn’t go out but this pride month.

06:02.24
charukaarora
Um, fairly.

06:08.30
charukaarora
Um, okay.

06:13.30
Halie
I just had more opportunities to go out. There was if you saw on my profile. There was a pride prom event and at first I like I don’t want to go because it brought up like a lot of old stuff for me like going to prom I went like 2 years in high school um with 2 guys not at the at the time I would have never like went.

06:16.81
charukaarora
Um, yes, yes.

06:31.26
charukaarora
We are.

06:31.52
Halie
With another girl or woman. But um, just like thinking of those moments where I might have stifled my expression because I was thinking about what am I going to wear to this event like how can I express myself and feel proud and authentic in myself which goes about like. Gender expression more so than sexual identity. But anyway, um so I just it was I was so excited to wear my pants suit and like just I got so excited for it and I hadn’t experienced that in the past. Um, so it was just.

07:02.59
charukaarora
No wow.

07:07.51
Halie
Was like being able to show up but then also realizing like the shame and and different things. Internalized homophobia stuff that comes up. You know when I’m when I’m putting myself out there that I didn’t previously look at in the past. So I think just getting out more is like pressuring me to like really deal with these things or look back at.

07:12.78
charukaarora
Um, yeah, yeah, um.

07:26.19
Halie
Maybe things that I hadn’t looked at before. Um, but then even to just stand there and be proud even though not everybody might agree with you or you know agree with where you’re going. So it means more because I’m like experiencing it a lot differently than I did in the past because I wasn’t fully like out as I am now on my.

07:32.71
charukaarora
Yes.

07:45.92
Halie
I mean that’s basically what I do now is I make these like queer narrative paintings. Um for queer women and people around the world. So it’s it’s wild like when I really look at it but it just means so much more to me this year yeah it’s scary too.

07:45.95
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

07:54.42
charukaarora
Um, you’ve literally embraced yourself. Oh Wow I’m so happy for you I remember our last podcast episode was about. We spoke about you know how you came out of the closet your story or feeling finding yourself.

08:03.72
Halie
Thank you.

08:13.69
charukaarora
Accepting yourself and I think that was two years ago I think our None podcast one and a half years go and enjoy if not to so you’ve like that’s that’s some quite some time like while and a half years ago but no you know it? Yes, yes, yes.

08:14.00
Halie
Um, yeah, dang Yeah, it’s a small. Yeah yeah, it feels like a long time but not really, it’s kind of.

08:33.22
charukaarora
Yes I think to fit the pandemic I think my life I don’t think I’ve seen this movement in my life as much like in the past few years I may not have seen this movement in my life in all aspects in the past, let’s say 25 thirty years like

08:33.35
Halie
And between.

08:50.95
charukaarora
Sometimes sometimes it’s just not the time and how long that time is but how many moments we live and the changes in the challenges and like with the pandemic. We’ve all had like youth leaps and we’ve grown so much and experienced so much that we typically may not even experience and in the past twenty years thirty years of our lives.

09:02.35
Halie
Are.

09:09.16
Halie
Um, yeah, yeah, it’s kind of like stripped down like the pandemic time for me I’m grateful that I was like healthy. Um but I like got to really look and strip down all the.

09:10.50
charukaarora
And it’s clearly changed us fundamentally.

09:27.27
Halie
Other stuff and really look at like Okay, what do? what do I want? What do I want in my art like it. It just forced me to be able to do that and I think you know you as well and other artists that um that we know and I’m grateful for that because it likes jump started a lot for me like that I maybe wouldn’t have.

09:35.81
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

09:45.64
Halie
Looked at previously if that wouldn’t have happened so how is pride in India I meant to ask you that I wanted to ask? yeah.

09:45.68
charukaarora
I know how do you think? how what has changed so much. Um, honestly where I stay honestly if to be a hundred percent honest and with no filters.

10:03.13
Halie
Yeah.

10:04.58
charukaarora
Smaller cities I don’t think they’re still very familiar with and fe and open about the concept. Um I don’t know if you know but India’s a very patriarchal country. Um, the concept of women having empowered an identity is still.

10:11.11
Halie
Are. Um, yeah.

10:23.47
charukaarora
Very discomforting for a lot of them. So it’s a huge leap when it comes to anything just way Beyond like but for me, anything else is a still a leap um celebration of Pride month I know like you know we’ve had a lot of events in tele. Um, a lot of my friends like.

10:25.50
Halie
Um, yeah.

10:41.77
charukaarora
But you here’s something I know a lot of people from the Lgbt community. But even though they’re out. They’re not fully out and that’s that’s that’s an equation in a country where even if you’re just you’re there but you’re still not there like.

10:57.91
Halie
Um.

10:59.99
charukaarora
It is only I am sharing something from my own experience where I know but not that we still have like but I think that there’s still very less conversation. There is very less celebration especially us is way more open way more open about and. There’s a lot more support whereas in India there needs to be a lot more conversation a lot more support um to make this like bigger and better.

11:28.50
Halie
Um, yeah I would also add like even for the us I mean in in smaller towns. It’s not like like I think a lot of people can look at the US and be like oh yeah, when you look at cities and like New York New York City pride l a pride like.

11:35.70
charukaarora
Um, no.

11:45.89
charukaarora
Because it is Madeline. Yes.

11:46.45
Halie
Obviously those cities are very open but like even where I’m from yeah like where I’m from. It’s a smaller beach town on the coast of Maryland like it’s getting there but that was the pride problem was the None event here so I was like oh my gosh this is pretty cool. Um, and it was like done by a queer own business. But.

12:00.62
charukaarora
Um, okay.

12:06.22
Halie
There there wasn’t like a parade like there’s it’s not as open and like where I grew up to. It’s not as open as like people might think you know in the us like us is just all pride. It’s not especially like Southern States and things I mean with the whole road thing as well. Um.

12:16.55
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

12:24.50
Halie
You can kind of see where people stand with women and all that. But yeah I won’t go into that. But ah, it’s not as open as people might you know presume it is.

12:28.48
charukaarora
Um, I think another thing that I feel is the conversation is still stronger when it comes to being online I think that’s still comfort.

12:41.74
Halie
Um, oh yeah, yes.

12:45.22
charukaarora
But when it comes to being offline because the community like you know I’ve seen a lot of people my friends that I know they still still comfortable being online and you know celebrating and just being out there but but.

13:00.53
Halie
Gosh It’s so different. No, that’s such a good point. Yeah.

13:03.88
charukaarora
Offline and I think if if in India it’s even like I it’s even harder because um, the societal structure we have in India is very traditional. So like there are over involved families. Um, constant judgment of anything like if people don’t have a if let’s say if women don’t have a right to wear the choice of their own clothes the right for for people to choose their gender identity is is this is such a big deal.

13:38.80
Halie
Yeah.

13:39.60
charukaarora
You know I think that really overwhelms like I’ll I’ll see a very common example like you know how when let’s say someone dresses up like if I would dress up or if someone would dress a if if whatever I wear let’s say for in someone else’s um. Definition If. It’s a little too much or whatever I wouldn’t wear that typically in a place that I feel I feel I would feel you know I would feel Judgmentally similarly I think this is only clothes is as Teeny tiny as that.

14:08.72
Halie
A.

14:14.92
charukaarora
But they’re so more far more like you know things like these where these are so sensitive that could hurt you people people in India have no sense of boundaries people can say things that we can’t even imagine and I think that is why a lot of times offline people like a lot of people tend to keep to themselves and.

14:20.35
Halie
Um, yeah, yeah, yeah.

14:34.25
charukaarora
Um, just stay in that cocoon and I I don’t blame them because um, it takes immense. Yes.

14:38.79
Halie
Yeah, you’re scared you don’t want to be takes a lot of courage I mean I can relate to that 1000% even with just wearing something simple like I mean in a different way I’m not going to walk down the street with what like a rainbow.

14:50.64
charukaarora
Um, yeah, yeah, yeah, nobody would care.

14:56.21
Halie
Like just rainbow stuff everywhere. It defended that I could go to New York and do that and it would be like nobody would bat an eye or look at me weird. But here they’d be like what are you doing? Um, but what you said about you know, showing up online versus in real life I noticed a huge difference and i’m. That’s what I’m currently I feel like pride’s different because I can actually go out in public spaces and you know show up I just think I got so comfortable over the pandemic showing up online that I didn’t think about like.

15:16.74
charukaarora
What made it different for you this time.

15:25.54
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

15:29.88
Halie
I would cocoon myself like you said and then it’s like well you and don’t need to get out there and live your life and it’s different. It’s different sitting in front of somebody looking at their facial expression face-to face than me, you know, taking my phone and posting. You know my art or my videos and just saying it’s there I can look at the comments when I feel like it.

15:46.35
charukaarora
Um, and you can refuse to yeah.

15:48.51
Halie
But when you’re in real life like you’re living it. Yeah, it’s real life I mean it’s just so so much different and to be able to show up authentically is is everything but it’s scary. It is.

15:53.97
charukaarora
Um, yeah, and also think sometimes like with online. We still have the option. Okay, you don’t you feel you’re not mentally there in and in all parts of situation. You block your cars. You don’t listen like you don’t hear filter.

16:08.20
Halie
Yeah, there’s like a there’s like a wall. Yeah oh if there’s a common I don’t like oh it’s deleted. Oh it’s gone like if there’s like a homophobic comment. Um, it’s gone I can’t but in in real life if somebody said something to you. You’d be like.

16:12.54
charukaarora
Yeah, you can still build a wall but it’s so hard. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you wouldn’t even know like and you could undo that like if it reaches your yours.

16:25.82
Halie
Ah, how that yeah now it has an effect like rings in your area. But yeah, it’s just it’s.

16:30.30
charukaarora
It’s there.

16:35.51
charukaarora
So what typically happens in a pride month tell me I’ve never seen like I’ve never been to 1 never seen one here. So I’m really excited to learn about it.

16:44.22
Halie
I’ve actually never been to? Yeah no I’ve actually never been to like a pride like the biggest pride event was that problem that I went to and then being in New York around pride month and just seeing like all the flags up. Um. Like at the Rockefeller Center there were flags just pride flags lining and everywhere you you went. It was just pride and I just get I um I like start to started to tear up at some points because when I see a pride flag I get so emotional. Um, so just I mean different events happening around the Us I know there’s pride in New York at the end of the month I think l a was earlier but just big cities have like big pride parades and events and celebrations. So. It’s just a month to celebrate. You know all people in the algy btq plus community queer people that’s great.

17:32.30
charukaarora
Your land. Um, it’s it’s it’s like a fest season but but I it’s so all little and beautiful.

17:41.65
Halie
Yeah, it’s just like a party month like a like a rainbow party month basically is what you know generally it is yeah.

17:54.16
charukaarora
I’ve seen I think I saw last yearpike March in New York or something and I just loved the energy I just love the energy and I wasn’t even there I just saw it online.

17:58.20
Halie
The.

18:03.90
Halie
I know I need to go I’m so sad I didn’t go last week I had an event a family event I had to go to or else I would have been there but I will be I need to make a point to go to 1 in a big city next week or next week next year I wish it was next week. Um, but.

18:14.97
charukaarora
Um, yeah, um, yeah.

18:22.64
Halie
Yeah, because it is. It’s like the energy I’ve heard is just electric and being around people and being able to feel seen and just comfortable and accepted. It’s like you don’t know. Being a queer person like you don’t know all the time if you’re safe. There’s There’s kind of like a guard that’s always up that I get used to when I walk in am I safe Here. Can I say this can I do this can especially if you’re with a partner like am I safe to be and like hold her hand or whatever the situation is like you really don’t know so it’s always like.

18:39.54
charukaarora
Um, yeah, yeah, um, yeah, right.

18:55.33
Halie
Looking around so it’s just that’s the beauty of it is if you’re at an event you don’t have to you just don’t have to think about it like you can just be you and and like we were talking at the beginning I know it does come Oh sorry.

19:02.90
charukaarora
How does it feel like when you’re living your life like on a regular day. How do you? interpret? How how do you interpret interpret pride on a regular day I feel like for me I feel like I mean again I Love the celebration and like. Like when we dedicate but we can like we need to continuous continuously make sure that we are celebrating who we are every day even if it means little progress even means small steps but just reminding ourselves that we can be ourselves if not in old ways.

19:22.80
Halie
Um, yeah.

19:34.40
Halie
Um, yeah.

19:39.10
charukaarora
In one day but in small ways every little day.

19:43.44
Halie
Yeah, kind of like what I was saying at the beginning. Um, just in your day to day I mean I’m not running around like I said with a pride flag but I mean showing up online. Ah you know, keep creating for me. It’s like creating different art pieces.

19:53.10
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

20:02.71
Halie
But even in might like stripped down day to day just in conversation. Ah, just if something comes up around different topics just to be present and to be able to just feel safe within yourself to show up as your authentic self. Um, it’s nothing like grandiose or like large that. You can do day to day. It’s just small little things. Um like ah I have ah yeah, no, but I This was like this is something really small. But I put this pride sticker on my water bottle. So when I go to the gym or like yoga. It’s I’m like.

20:22.80
charukaarora
Um, yeah, you do that with your art. Yeah oh wow. Yeah, it’s like a yeah, it’s subtle.

20:39.65
Halie
I Hope you can see it.

20:42.65
charukaarora
Like it’s something that doesn’t like it’s subtle but it’s out there.

20:46.54
Halie
Yeah, well just if I saw that on someone’s water bottle I’d be happy I’d be like oh that this person’s cool like they there they support I don’t know. Yeah yeah.

20:53.28
charukaarora
Yeah, yeah, you’re standing up for yours Yourselfve you’re You’re basically claiming who you are We all have the right to do that I Love that.

21:05.66
Halie
I Just like put my Rainbow Rainbow sticker on but that’s just something like totally small, but um, it’s like for me things that were hard in the past was depending on a conversation that I was in with a group of people.

21:10.31
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

21:22.48
Halie
How real on a personal level like how real am I being with myself showing up and and not worrying about what anyone else like whatever someone’s opinion is whatever the conversation is it’s like am I speaking and not holding my breath am I speaking and and just.

21:28.11
charukaarora
Um.

21:40.36
Halie
Allowing things to come and and being open with how I feel based off who I am so so that’s kind of another little little thing too that I am conscious of or try to be.

21:43.44
charukaarora
Um, right.

21:49.71
charukaarora
With your work I think your work. Yeah, your work has a lot of pride. Not only literally like see for me I’m always trying to see prior into perspectives like we all like I said like.

21:58.48
Halie
Thank you.

22:08.55
charukaarora
After um, that feeling that you get I think we both can get the same feeling and even we can come from different lenses different experiences and like for me um, coming being in an indian like you know, being in India being a woman the fights that we have.

22:15.43
Halie
Um, yeah, definitely.

22:27.98
charukaarora
Ah, the fight to be ourselves to claim our bodies to claim our identities to claim our position. It’s a long long Journey. It’s been a long long term and it still is a long Way. So I can only come because that’s the most intimate that’s the experience I come from I I can’t come from an experience I haven’t had. I Know where you come from? Um, so I’m just seeing like I I Love your work I I love them I Just I Love how? um, strongly it holds itself. How.

22:55.40
Halie
Thank you.

23:05.84
Halie
Thanks.

Even like how it’s feminine, but it’s so it’s also so sharp and um, it holds its voice in ground on its own. You know what I’m trying to say.

23:18.23
Halie
Thank you I love that no and that’s what I try yeah, that’s what I try and and do is like capture that feminine energy but keep it It’s always like this balance for me between feminine and masculine. Ah so kind of keeping that like you said like like a feminine. Aspect to it and then having like a sharpness or like ah, an edge and I like to keep keep it that way you know whatever composition that I pick is kind of based off of those None things.

23:47.56
charukaarora
Okay, to tell me now we are doing this international call for artd for with the team tried and you’re guest creatating it. Um, firstly we are so excited I’m so excited to do this because I’m looking forward to learn a lot more and you know.

24:05.36
charukaarora
See a lot more and hear people’s stories and to see I think I think with every team every time we see the submissions. It opens my mind so much because there is so many possibility of something that we haven’t even thought about in stories that. Ah, haven’t heard about and experienced Anyway, what is what are you thinking about this this call is for women and Aldb T Q Plus Community both Um, what are you looking forward to in this show in the work that you’re we’re ah calling out for the artist that. Who submit What is that you’re looking for. How would how how do you want them to.

24:52.42
charukaarora
Go ahead.

24:54.11
Halie
Ah, sorry it just it just cut out for a None Um, no I mean I’m very open to whatever you know submissions come in from whatever medium I I love seeing storytelling that’s something that binds you know my work together and I think as a queer artist.

25:08.48
charukaarora
Yeah.

25:12.75
Halie
Um, in coming from my own space. It’s It’s beautiful to see how other people other people’s experiences have shaped the work that they create especially about Pride. So I Just know it can look like so many different things and I’m just excited to see different works and you know different. Narratives Maybe that are being played I Love I Love Narratives. So I just am excited to to you know, take a look at different artists and and see new work and just be very open to whatever kind of comes through because pride can look like so many different things.

25:42.64
charukaarora
Like yeah I mean if we can all have our definitions of pride. We can all have our own experience of when that feeling of pride comes in and how we associate to ourselves.

25:58.41
Halie
Yeah, yeah, but like we so I think like we said too with the beginning like you know it’s very internalized to this type of feeling so seeing.

25:59.76
charukaarora
And to others sometimes.

26:07.81
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

26:15.70
Halie
I mean I I do figurative work but I would love to see just like abstract figured it like just whatever, whatever you know? um I’m just really excited to see you know submissions and to check out. Everyone’s work.

26:17.10
charukaarora
Um, abstract yeah.

26:27.56
charukaarora

So.

27:18.97
Halie
Um.

27:20.69
charukaarora
Yeah I look forward I’m sure Healy looked forward. Do you have anything else to say.

27:23.44
Halie
Yeah, no now I just wanted to add when you were talking. Um I what I wanted to enunci it on is just how pride doesn’t have to last for one month like in June like pride is something that is consistent and encompasses every single month. Um, so.

27:35.80
charukaarora
Um, yes.

27:43.35
Halie
Just seeing what pride looks like throughout the year and not just focusing like on you know all the rainbows and celebrations are great but seeing real authentic interpretations is what I’m you know, really looking for so I also just wanted to add that.

27:54.10
charukaarora
Yeah I mean I remember like you know instant I Love that thought because you know when we were doing the ready to wear coal and then I was just telling you celine and I had this conversation. We did a podcast episode and I loved while she was saying you know for me ready to wear is also like something.

28:08.32
Halie
Yeah.

28:13.74
charukaarora
You know someone someone standing in the kitchen and an apron that that person is letting that is also an interpretation of what someone is wearing and how that puts a context to someone’s work and life in moments of life. And I think I Really like this idea game for pride like um, how can how you capture that emotion and use convey our emotions in dayto-day lives and that pride may not just be in context like I think with with this theme at least for me I’m really looking forward to works that that.

28:32.30
Halie
Now that’s beautiful.

28:50.96
charukaarora
Ah, centered around gender sexuality identity um like these topics and they relate to like gender gender generalization or like body of but you know sexualization of bodies and like I’m just saying in None of words. But. Anything and everything that centers around because we just like there is this such a wide white thing and white topic and there’s so many important narratives that could paint children. It.

29:10.65
Halie
Um, yeah.

29:22.30
Halie
Yeah I mean just your experience as a queer person or somebody in the community is soert like everyone has their own unique experience and like you said anywhere from like gender expression to sexual identity like all these different gender identity. Ah,, there’s just so many different aspects that can pull together under pride under the theme of pride so just being able to really take that in and see how artists interpret that for themselves I think is really beautiful and it’s going to be really exciting to see.

29:45.16
charukaarora
Um, yeah.

29:55.15
charukaarora
Me too and even for women I just wanted to remind this. This call is not only for lcbtq community but also for the women from all over the world and how they interpret because I feel like um, we all have our own interpretations of what gender or sexuality.

30:04.75
Halie
Yes.

30:14.41
charukaarora
Identity is and how other women noticed even if you’re making work in the sense of pride Lgbtq but also in general when it comes to gender Identity sexuality. Um you your work is more than welcomed in this team.

30:29.81
Halie
Yeah, yeah, and I also wanted to say too like you can be anywhere in your journey to like how we were talking about being fully out being you know closeted I don’t know it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter what you identify as either you don’t have to have a specific label.

30:30.44
charukaarora
Because we’d love to have that perspective too.

30:41.73
charukaarora
Um, yeah. Um, yeah, yeah, just share your viewpoint I think I think the whole call the idea of a call like this is to have a visual narrative of visual storytelling in collaboration with people from all around the world.

30:49.49
Halie
Like you can just kind of we’ll accept and we’ll look at your work. So.
