1. Your work revolve around the essence of humanity and character—what draws you to explore these themes in your portraits?
I believe that our emotional landscapes are profoundly tied to the natural world. As humans, we are inseparably connected to nature, and fostering that relationship is vital for our well-being. My art often delves into this connection through introspective themes, exploring the inner workings of the soul. I depict subjects with closed eyes or obscured by natural elements like flowers and butterflies, symbolizing our intrinsic bond with nature. Through my art, I hope to inspire an appreciation for the subtleties of our emotions and the environment around us, encouraging a deeper harmony within ourselves and the world. 2. How have your global travels and diverse living experiences influenced the way you approach portrait painting?
Although I was born in Serbia, I lived there only briefly, but its essence is stitched into the fabric of my identity. However, my experiences across various cultures have truly enriched my art. Each place I’ve called home—filled with distinct landscapes, traditions, and colors—has contributed to my artistic vocabulary. This multicultural tapestry inspires themes of interconnectedness and unity in my work. Engaging with diverse artistic communities allows me to blend techniques and incorporate symbolisms from various cultures into my art. My travels have broadened my perspective and infused narratives into my paintings that resonate with shared human experiences.

3. You describe painting as both introspective and meditative—what does this process look like for you, and how does it impact your final work?
The process of painting is introspective for me. It is an exercise of getting in touch with my emotions and endeavoring to express them through my paintings. I aspire for my work to evoke emotions and provoke thought in the viewer, too. When viewers engage with my art, I hope they feel a sense of wonder and introspection—perhaps reflecting on their own experiences and feelings. I want them to find a connection between the imagery and their inner worlds, leading to a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with nature. Art has this unique ability to create moments of stillness and contemplation in our busy lives, and I cherish the thought of contributing to that.

4. After a life-altering surgery, you fully accepted your creative calling. How has this pivotal moment shaped your art journey?
My journey to becoming a professional artist was filled with self-doubt and hesitation. There were moments when fear overshadowed my confidence. However, transformative life experiences illuminated the importance of following my passion. A pivotal moment came when I faced a serious health situation requiring open heart surgery. This experience profoundly underscored the importance of doing what we are meant to do and staying true to ourselves. The brevity of life became a powerful reminder that if I don’t pursue my dreams, no one else will. This realization led me to embrace authenticity, overcoming fears and societal expectations to carve out my niche in the art world.

5. Your technique combines traditional methods with a contemporary realist style—what inspires this fusion, and how does it reflect your creative vision?
My artistic foundation is rooted in classical training, particularly in contemporary realism, focusing on figurative and portrait work. When creating, I believe in leaving space for imagination. Each piece seeks to tell a story, evoking an emotional response that draws the viewer in. I maintain a consistent color palette across my works, with slight variations tailored to specific needs. This consistency not only empowers my creative process but also guarantees that I can rely on the aesthetic outcome I strive for.

6. What do you hope viewers feel or take away when they engage with your portraits?
As a contemporary realist portrait artist, my goal is for viewers to feel a genuine connection with the subjects I portray. In each piece, I strive to capture more than just physical likeness; I aim to reveal the character and essence of the person. By incorporating symbolism and elements from the subject’s life and interests, I create a narrative that tells their unique story. I hope viewers walk away with a deeper understanding of the subject, sensing their personality, passions, and experiences. I want my portraits to evoke curiosity and empathy, allowing the viewer to see the world through the subject’s eyes, even if just for a moment. Ultimately, I wish for my art to celebrate the richness of human individuality and the invisible threads that connect us all.
