In my work, I strive to bring life and warmth to glass through sculptural pieces that feel almost alive, each telling a story that invites the viewer into its world. Inspired by elements that evoke the human experience, I aim to create art that feels personal and timeless—pieces that can be treasured as lifelong heirlooms. My chosen medium, stained glass, traditionally seen in windows and flat panels, becomes something new as I shape it into dynamic, three-dimensional forms that interact with light and space unexpectedly.
1. Abigail, what inspired you to start working with stained glass, and how did growing up in Kentucky influence your journey?
When she moved, my mother-in-law got me into glasswork by offering her a supply of stained glass pieces. I wasn’t interested at first, but then I gave it a go. I’ve always expressed myself through art, and glass truly felt like the best way after that.

2. How do you develop intricate designs and vibrant colour choices for your pieces?
I’ve always loved glass lamps, the richness and depth of colours they emit when lit. I’m always trying to evoke an emotion with my sculptures, whether providing comfort or wonder.

3. What’s the most rewarding part of creating stained glass art for your customers?
I like inspiring others. Everyone says everything has been done before, but there is only one you. Only you can create a world in your head.
My favourite project was Felix the Sleeping Fox. His peaceful rest brings me comfort and happiness. He is based on a stuffed animal from my book, The Devil’s Mercy.

5. How do you stay connected to your craft and keep your creativity flowing?
The most brilliant thing in the world is your mind. The only thing stifling it is your insecurities. I like to daydream and fuel my creativity with books, art, and joy. I only surround myself with positive people.

6. What advice would you give to women seeking a career in the arts?
Find your voice. Keep producing and believe that if your work speaks to you, it will speak to others.
