How Edith Torres Turns Fragments of Light into Stunning Art

Edith Torres

In this interview, Edith Torres, a talented artist renowned for blending Cubism, collage, and spirituality, shares her creative journey with the Arts to Hearts Project. She opens up about what inspires her, how she approaches her creative process, and the deeper meanings behind each of her influential works.

She shares how her choice of materials—textured collages or bold geometric shapes—depends on the feelings she wants to express. Edith also discusses how her spiritual journey and intuition inform her creative process, enabling her to paint what she feels in the moment rather than adhering to a set plan.

Having lived in many countries, she’s been deeply influenced by different cultures, colours, and patterns, which now find their way into her work. For her, colour is more than just decoration—it’s a feeling, a memory, and a language. She also loves mixing traditional tools with unexpected materials, such as gold leaf and recycled paper, to bring texture and depth to her pieces.

Edith Torres is a featured artist in our book “101 Art Book: Portrait Edition .” You can explore her journey and the stories of other artists by purchasing the book here: https://shop.artstoheartsproject.com/products/the-creative-process-book

Edith Torres is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of cubism, collage, and spirituality. Her art is characterized by dynamic compositions that combine geometry, texture, and color to convey deep emotions and visual narratives. With an international background, she has lived in several countries, each leaving an imprint on her artistic style and perspective. Through her work, she seeks to capture the essence of human connection, introspection, and the beauty within abstraction.

1.  Edith, your art blends so many mediums and styles, from collage to Cubism. How do you decide which medium to use for a particular piece?

The medium depends on the emotion and story I want to convey. Some ideas require the richness of collage textures, while others find their best expression in Cubism’s geometric forms. Sometimes, I start with a clear idea, but as the piece evolves, the process itself guides me toward the right material choice.

2.  Your work is deeply influenced by your spiritual journey. How do you channel those emotions into your art, and what role does intuition play in your process?

Spirituality is at the core of my creative process. I paint from emotion and the energy of the moment, allowing intuition to guide my hands. I don’t follow a rigid plan; instead, I let colours, shapes, and textures flow organically. Each piece is a reflection of my inner journey, and often, it is in the process that I discover its true meaning.

3.  You’ve lived in many different countries. How have these diverse cultures influenced your art and perspective?

Every place I have lived has left an imprint on my art. The architecture, the colour palettes of landscapes, the textile patterns, and the symbolism of each culture have enriched my vision. These experiences have taught me to see beauty in diversity and integrate multiple influences into my visual language.

4.  Color plays a huge role in your work, radiating energy and emotion. How do you choose the colours for each piece, and what do they represent for you?

Colour is a language in itself. I don’t choose it rationally; I feel it. Each hue has a vibration, an emotion. Sometimes colors emerge from a memory or a specific sensation, while other times I let them evolve on the canvas. Gold and metallic tones symbolize light and the divine, while vibrant colours convey energy and life.

5.  Your process involves a mix of traditional and unconventional tools. How do these different materials and techniques help you express your creative vision?

I love experimenting with unconventional materials. I use brushes, but also palette knives, recycled paper, gold leaf, and unexpected elements. These materials add depth and texture, giving each piece a unique character. The combination of traditional and unexpected elements allows me to explore new ways of expression.

6.  How do you think your extensive exhibition history has shaped your creative journey and helped expand your reach as an artist?

Exhibitions have allowed me to share my vision with the world and connect with different audiences. Each exhibition is a new dialogue with the viewer and an opportunity for growth. It has also given me the confidence to continue exploring new ideas and pushing the boundaries of my art.
