New Release 101 Art book: Colors Edition is Available for Pre-Order

There are some things in art that we never really stop discovering. Color is one of them.

It can be loud or quiet, joyful or nostalgic, familiar or completely unexpected. Sometimes it catches our attention before we even understand why. Sometimes a particular shade brings back a memory, changes the mood of a room, or makes an artwork stay with us long after we have looked away.

That is where the newest edition of the 101 Art book series begins.

101 Art Book: Colors Edition is now available for pre-order, bringing together 101 contemporary artists from around the world and their very different ways of seeing, using, and experiencing color. The edition is the 12th book in the 101 Art book series, continuing a project that has grown into a beautiful collection of artists, stories, ideas, and creative perspectives.

And this time, the pages are filled with color in every possible language.

A Project Built Around Artists

The 101 Artbook series has always been about creating a space where artists can be discovered, celebrated, and given the opportunity to bring their work into a wider conversation.

Every edition begins with a theme, but there is never just one way to interpret it. Artists are invited to respond through their own mediums, experiences, visual languages, and creative instincts. That openness is what makes every 101 Artbook feel so different from the one before it.

Across the series, hundreds of artists have found a place within these pages. The project has also awarded more than $5,000 in cash awards over its editions, celebrating artists whose work made a particular impression while recognizing the time, thought, and care behind their creative practices.

For the Colors Edition, that shared space became especially exciting. With 101 artists responding to something as familiar and endlessly expressive as color, the result is a collection filled with very different ways of seeing.

Our Theme: When Color Becomes Meaning

Color is something we encounter every day, but artists have a wonderful way of making us see it differently.

A color can carry a memory. It can create a sense of place, suggest an emotion, bring movement into a composition, or become the quiet detail that changes everything around it. One artist may use color boldly and instinctively, while another may build an entire atmosphere from the softest shifts in tone.

For 101 Artbook: Colors Edition, we wanted to explore that relationship.

Rather than defining what color should mean, the edition leaves room for every artist to answer that question for themselves. Their palettes become personal, expressive, playful, atmospheric, structured, and sometimes wonderfully unexpected.

Together, these works remind us that color does not have one fixed meaning. It changes with the artist, the artwork, and the person standing in front of it.

In Conversation With The Artists Behind The Pages

Alongside the 101 featured artists, the Colors Edition also opens up space for conversations that take us a little deeper into the creative lives and ideas behind the work.

Ian Davenport And The Cascade Of Colors

We begin with Ian Davenport, the cover artist of the Colors Edition.

Known for his distinctive approach to painting and his explorations of color, movement, and repetition, Ian brings a particularly fitting energy to the cover of this edition. His work welcomes us into the book with a visual language that immediately makes color feel alive.

In our conversation with Ian, we get to look beyond the finished artwork and into his creative journey, his relationship with color, and the ideas that have shaped his practice.

It feels like the perfect place to begin a book that asks us to look at color a little more closely.

Conversations That Take Us Deeper

The edition also features conversations with Julia Green, Klone, and Allan Wilkie, each offering a different perspective on art and creative practice.

Julia Green shares insights into her relationship with art and collecting, giving us a glimpse into the personal side of discovering and living with artwork.

With Klone, the conversation moves into the ideas, experiences, and creative thinking that sit behind the work, while Allan Wilkie brings another distinct perspective shaped by his own artistic journey.

Together, these four conversations make the book feel like more than a collection of images. They give us little windows into the people, thoughts, and experiences behind the work.

Meet Our Award Winners

Every edition of the 101 Artbook brings with it the difficult and lovely task of choosing the works that stand out among so many different interpretations of the theme.

For the Colors Edition, three artists received special recognition for their work: Stephen Scrivener, Olga Ermol, and Kelly Twine.

Stephen Scrivener: Cash Award Winner

Stephen Scrivener received the Cash Award for his artwork Amazon 3.

Created with acrylic pen on watercolor paper mounted on a floating panel, the work takes inspiration from the folds, creases, and geometry of a cardboard box and transforms those everyday structural details into a vibrant abstract composition.

The repeated shapes and energetic colors give the work a strong sense of rhythm, turning something wonderfully ordinary into something unexpected.

It is a beautiful example of how an artist can take a familiar object and completely change the way we see it.

Our Runners Up

Olga Ermol, 1st Runner Up for A Saturated Space I, brings together cotton thread and canvas in layers of rich reds, purples, pinks, yellows, and oranges. The repeated lines turn color into texture, rhythm, and movement.

Kelly Twine, 2nd Runner Up for Distilled Waters, transforms a familiar landscape of water, trees, and a boat into something dreamlike. Deep blues, purples, and soft pinks give the work a quiet, otherworldly atmosphere.

Together, our three award-winning artists show just how many different ways there are to see and experience color.
