At the Arts to Hearts Project, we see abstract art as one of the purest and most powerful bridges between artist and viewer, a space where meaning isn’t dictated but gently discovered. It speaks in colours and textures where words often fail, offering a language of feeling rather than form. Through sweeping gestures, delicate marks, and intentional layers, abstraction invites us into an intimate dialogue, giving each viewer the freedom to find their own story, their own truth, within the work.

For years, Arts to Hearts Project has celebrated the transformative power of art, spotlighting over 30,000 artists worldwide through curated exhibitions, publications, and heartfelt storytelling. Our mission has always been to honour the courage it takes for artists to create from a place of vulnerability and vision, especially those who dare to push boundaries and redefine what art can be.

This week, we shine our light on a group of truly remarkable abstract artists whose work challenges convention, embraces imagination, and transforms blank canvases into profound experiences. Their art doesn’t simply decorate walls; it provokes thought, sparks emotion, and reminds us that within abstraction lies the beauty of the unknown, a reminder that sometimes, the most powerful art isn’t meant to be understood at first glance but felt in every glance that follows.

1.Jeffrey Tover (@jeffreytoverart)

Jeffrey Tover is a Northern California–based  abstract artist whose work radiates fearless energy and emotional honesty. After a long hiatus from art during his “working” years, he returned to the studio over a decade ago with a renewed passion that has since defined his career. His process is deeply intuitive, beginning without a fixed plan; he layers paint, charcoal, and mixed media, letting spontaneity lead until the canvas itself reveals a direction. This instinctive approach has become his signature, producing work that feels alive, textured, and emotionally charged.

Tover’s paintings reflect the influence of the great Abstract Expressionists like Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell, yet his voice is distinctly his own. He thrives on bold contrasts, vibrant hues against muted tones, sweeping lines cutting through layered surfaces creating pieces that are as dynamic as they are contemplative. His dedication to abstraction has earned him international acclaim, with collectors across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East acquiring his works for private and commercial spaces. Beyond his studio practice, Tover teaches abstract painting techniques and mentors emerging artists, sharing not only his skill but his fearless philosophy of creating without limits.

With a career that bridges passion, innovation, and impact, Jeffrey Tover stands among today’s most remarkable abstract artists, transforming blank canvases into experiences that leave a lasting impression on all who encounter them.

2. Hillary Butler (@hillarybutlerfineart)

Hillary Butler’s artistic journey is anything but conventional and that’s exactly what makes her work so captivating. What began as a winding path through English studies, teaching, administration, and graphic design eventually led her back to her first love: art. In 2011, Hillary made the bold decision to leave her 9–5 job to fully embrace life as an artist, building a career that not only sustains her creatively but also allows her to work alongside her family something she describes as one of her greatest joys.

Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Hillary creates abstract paintings that radiate warmth, movement, and a sense of calm energy. Her work has caught the attention of national audiences, appearing on ABC’s hit show Nashville and exhibited at Agora Gallery in New York. She’s also been featured on leading lifestyle and design platforms including Better Homes and Gardens, Domino, and Design Love Fest, cementing her place as a painter whose vision resonates far beyond the studio.

Despite her growing recognition, Hillary’s art remains deeply personal and approachable a reflection of her belief that art should bring joy, spark conversation, and feel like a part of everyday life. With each brushstroke, she invites viewers into her world, making Hillary Butler not just an accomplished abstract artist, but a storyteller of color, texture, and feeling.

2. Susan Washington (@susanwashingtonart)

Susan Washington is an  abstract artist whose work carries the raw pulse of the streets where her journey began. Shaped by the creative energy of New York in the 1980s, Susan’s paintings are layered narratives of urban life, female empowerment, and personal history, an art form that feels both deeply contemporary and timeless. Her style is bold yet poetic, combining painterly textures, digital image transfers, and hand-drawn marks that build into richly stratified surfaces. Lyrics, quotes, symbols, and fragments of text appear like whispers from the past, echoing graffiti-covered trains, steel shutters, and telephone booths that colored her Brooklyn childhood. Susan describes her canvases as “visual narratives” archaeological in their layers, as if stories have been pasted, scratched away, and rewritten over time.

Before devoting herself to painting, Susan spent two decades at Christian Dior Menswear, bringing her sharp eye for design and detail into the fashion world. But the pull of painting, nurtured since childhood by her father and godmother, was too strong to ignore. That return to her first love led to major series like Subway Sonnets  inspired by the graffiti and grit of New York and Unbridled, a body of work that weaves vintage cowgirl iconography with themes of strength, freedom, and reinvention, all while retaining her signature urban edge.

Her paintings have been exhibited widely  from The Affordable Art Fair New York to The Other Art Fair Los Angeles  and are held in collections across the globe, including Google NYC, The Daxton, The Renaissance Palm Springs, and private collections from Los Angeles to Antwerp. Her work has even appeared in major films and shows, including The Morning Show, Book Club, and LA’s Finest, a testament to its cultural reach. With every piece, Susan Washington stands out as one of today’s most dynamic a abstract artists an artist who transforms color, texture, and text into layered stories that are as raw as they are resonant.

These abstract artists not just paint but they open a dialogue between artist and viewer, one that transcends language and invites personal interpretation. Each brushstroke carries pieces of their journeys: the moments of struggle, the sparks of inspiration, the quiet reflections, and the bold leaps of faith. Their paintings don’t hand you answers  instead, they offer space for your own stories to unfold, for your own emotions to rise to the surface.

At the Arts to Hearts Project, we believe this is the true magic of abstract art. It doesn’t simply exist to be observed; it exists to be felt  to stir something in us, to awaken memories, and to remind us of the beauty and complexity of being human. Sharing these remarkable artists’ work is more than a feature; it’s an honor. Their courage to create without boundaries and to share pieces of their hearts with the world allows us to see our own lives reflected in new, unexpected ways.

Because in the end, abstract art is never just paint on a surface it’s transformation, connection, and the spark of possibility waiting for each of us to discover.
