Artwork by Burcu Korkmazyurek

If you are an artist, then you must have experienced days when you couldn’t decide what to paint in your studio. For the most part, we feel clearly and passionately about certain subjects and are excited to bring those strokes and colors to life. Other days, we are not quite as sure and try to find inspiration in the world around us, and that’s okay. So, if you are especially someone who is looking for ideas regarding what to paint next, we are here to tell you that you must definitely try floral art if you haven’t already!

Flowers are one of the greatest gifts of nature, and luckily they are found almost everywhere. From forests to mountains, from parks to roadsides, and even in your own backyard, you will find flowers simply swaying with the gentle wind. It’s amazing how such a beautiful object can be found in abundance around us, and we often take them for granted. With such busy lives, we don’t have the time to truly appreciate the miracle that is a flower’s beauty!

Every week on our Arts to Hearts Instagram page (@artstoheartsproject), we try to make other artists participate in a certain discourse. Such opinions and comments can be helpful for fellow artists, but more importantly, they are a great way to know more about our wonderful followers!

floral art

This week, we asked our ATH community why they enjoyed painting flowers, and they came up with some really inspirational and beautiful answers. We want to share them with you here so that if floral art is something you have not tried your hand on, you can take it as a sign to do it now.

Let’s take a look at some of the comments our fellow readers left on our Instagram post!

Creating floral art can be relaxing

When we think of flowers, we think of all the colors they bring into our lives. Red, yellow, white, purple; the colors are endless. And the most obvious reason why flowers relax us is that they have long been considered a symbol of love. Whether it’s romantic love or platonic, whether you want to comfort a friend or show your affection, flowers can never go wrong. And that’s why we recommend painting flowers because they have to power to take you back to a time that reminds you of all the love you received and shared!

Flowers are the best subjects

@jarniegodwinart has an amazing take on painting flowers, that they can be amazing subjects! With each shade of a flower, you will notice that the mood also changes. A red flower has a romantic feel to it, while a black flower has a sense of mystery to it. What’s more is that each flower has its character, and you can’t help but be fascinated by the intricacy of the details.

Painting flowers can be meditative

With its beautifully shaped petals, delicate filaments, tiny seeds, and breathtaking colors, you will agree that drawing a flower is not as easy as it sounds, If you really put your mind to it, this task can take you away into another world for some time, where all your attention is focused on making sure that those petals stay proportionate. @bcpareder.art says it best, that modeling flowers can be a quite meditative process that every artist should try at least once in their life!

Flowers are a reflection of nature’s beauty

Flowers have another extremely important purpose, and that is to remind us of how beautiful and elegant nature can be. Life can have its challenges, and sometimes we don’t feel our best. Flowers are there to show us that in a world as complicated as ours, there are still things that can take our breath away and bring hope. Nature can be cruel, but it can also be soothing, and that’s what we want you to take with you in your studio the next time you want to paint something.

You can let your imagination run wild

As we mentioned before, flowers come in so many colors that you’ll never get bored of them. It’s amazing how creative nature can get, and with flowers, you will notice that each one has its own purpose. Some flowers are vibrant so they can attract bugs, and some are better pollinators. Some flowers are so ridiculously beautiful that you’re instantly enchanted by them. As if their beauty was not enough for them to be appealing, flowers are also known for their sweet smell. By drawing a flower, you don’t have to limit yourself. You can let your imagination run wild and that’s the best part about creating floral art!

Flowers are magical

After everything we have mentioned, it’s safe to say that flowers can also be described as magical. The transformation of a bud into a blooming flower is not a simple process as the bud needs to go through complex changes before it matures into its final form. Then how can it not be considered other-worldly?! Another interesting activity for an artist would be to observe a flower up close, and then paint their heart out. We are certain that the results will be profound!

In the end, flowers have the power to bring a smile to your face. From the moment we learn to hold a pencil, one of the first objects we learn to draw is a flower. Even though the flower most of us ended up making as children was a very simple one, we were instantly attracted to its charisma. So, If you have not tried your hand at floral art yet, let’s go back to our beginnings, and this time, bring our passion and creativity to life in a slightly different way!
