10 Original Art Pieces Under $1000 from The Art of Small Works | ATH x Artsy Exhibition
There is something special about bringing an original artwork into your home. It might be the colors that catch your eye, a little detail you keep noticing every time you walk past it, or simply the feeling that a piece speaks to you in a way you cannot quite explain. And the best part? Finding art you genuinely love does not have to mean spending thousands of dollars.
Collecting art can be an exciting journey, whether you are buying your very first piece or adding something new to a collection you have been building for years. Sometimes, all it takes is discovering an artist whose work stays with you long after you have seen it. Original art also makes room for something personal in our homes, something with its own story, made by an artist with a perspective all their own.
At Arts to Hearts Project, we believe discovering and collecting art should feel welcoming, inspiring, and accessible. Through our collaboration with Artsy, The Art of Small Works exhibition brings together original artworks by artists whose creative voices deserve to be discovered. The exhibition is an invitation to look a little closer, explore different practices, and perhaps find a piece that feels like it was meant for your walls.
And if you have been thinking about starting your art collection, this is a lovely place to begin. We have picked out 10 original artworks priced under $1,000 from The Art of Small Works exhibition that caught our attention. From expressive compositions to thoughtful details and captivating use of colour, each piece offers a chance to bring an artist’s original work into your space without stretching your budget too far.
Finding Your First Original Artwork or Your Next Favorite
You do not need to be an experienced collector to know when a piece feels right. You might be drawn to a painting because it reminds you of a place you love, or find yourself returning to an artwork because something about it makes you curious. That connection is often a wonderful starting point for collecting.
When exploring original art, it helps to think beyond the price tag. Consider the colours and textures you enjoy living with, the kind of atmosphere you want to create in your space, and the artists whose practices you would love to learn more about. An original artwork can become a conversation starter, a meaningful addition to your home, or the beginning of a collection that grows with you over time.
With The Art of Small Works, we wanted to make discovering artists and their work feel a little more approachable. So, whether you are a first-time buyer looking for that special piece or a seasoned collector searching for your next find, here are 10 original artworks under $1,000 from the ATH x Artsy exhibition worth taking a closer look at.
1. Facing West by Courtney Colgan

Dimensions : 16 × 3 in | 40.6 × 7.6 cm
Price: US$500
“Facing West, Oil on Linen, 16 x 16 inches, Courtney Colgan, 2025. A hopeful hazy blue fades into brilliant yellow light which floats upon a soft mauve hoovering over burnt sienna. Hazy yet calm, Hot yet happy. An atmosphere to take or leave. A space which expands within the confines of the object itself. Dusty yet clear. A recognized yet vague sight, feeling or place. Color or the suggestion of.
This work was handmade. Stretcher bars have been made by the artist. The linen was stretched and primed by the artist as well.”
2. Silken Threads of LifeーStars in Bloom by Harumi Yukawa

Medium: Japanese Sumi Ink, Warecolor, Pastel and Shell Lime White
Dimensions: 7 9/10 × 7 9/10 in | 20 × 20 × 0.1 cm
Price: US$888
“What makes Stars in Bloom special to me is the way the untouched paper becomes part of the image itself. Through years of working with Sumi ink and watercolor, I came to understand that the blankness of paper is not an empty space, but a presence that already holds light. In this work, flowers emerge from and dissolve back into that light. Their forms are never completely fixed, reflecting my perception of life as a continuous gradation in which beauty and impermanence, light and shadow, presence and absence coexist.”
3. I got the world in my hand by Valerie Carmet

Mixed media: Fake fur, plastic toys, wood,
Dimensions: 6 × 6 × 2 in | 15.2 × 15.2 × 5.1 cm
Price: US$585
“Everything But The Kitchen Sink” is a limited series of one-of-a-kind mixed-media assemblages created entirely from recycled and repurposed materials found in Valerie Carmet’s studio. Each work transforms overlooked remnants and everyday objects into playful, unexpected compositions.
Born during the isolation of the pandemic, the series emerged from a period when access to flea markets, garage sales, second-hand stores, and found materials was limited. Rather than allowing these restrictions to interrupt her creative practice, Carmet turned to what was already around her, embracing limitation as a creative challenge.
The resulting works are humorous and lighthearted while exploring deeper themes of resourcefulness, resilience, sustainability, and imagination. Every piece is unique, with its own combination of materials, textures, colors, and found elements.
The series celebrates the idea that creativity does not require abundance: with imagination, even the ordinary and discarded can be transformed into meaningful art.”
4. Ascenso II by Marcela Villa E.

Medium: Textile and Fiber Art
Dimensions: 13 2/5 × 11 × 1 3/5 in | 34 × 28 × 4 cm
Price: US$800
“Through sculptural volumes made from an artisanal banana and cotton fabric, grown, processed and woven by artisanal craftspeople in the Colombian Andes, Ascenso II evokes the contours of an imagined golden mountain range. Drawing on imprecise, almost dreamlike memories, texture and light combine in an expression that is raw, yet refined and minimalist, evoking the ascent to a mountain’s summit as an act of spiritual elevation and connection with the divine across various cultures in Colombia, Latin America, and the world.”
5. In the Wings by Renata Křivá

Medium: Mixed media on cotton canvas
Dimensions: 4/5 × 15 7/10 in | 2 × 40 cm
Price: US$1000
“This artwork was created from impressions of poppies I came across in nature. Their delicate forms and vivid red color made me stop and really look. The title, “In the Wings,” suggests a moment before the flowers step onto their own stage. For me, the work is a reminder of an ordinary moment that might otherwise pass unnoticed. I believe that when we slow down and pay attention to what surrounds us, we can discover beauty even in the most everyday moments.”
6. Woman Reading with Sunflowers – Red Hair Lady by Elena Gotovtseva

Medium: Acrylic/ canvas
Dimensions: 19 7/10 × 27 3/5 in | 50 × 70 cm
Price: US$690
“This expressive painting portrays a red-haired woman resting among sunflowers, books, fruit, and glass vessels in a vibrant interior. Bold colors and dynamic shapes transform an everyday scene into a dreamlike composition filled with warmth and emotion. The figure’s closed eyes and relaxed posture suggest a moment of quiet reflection, while the glowing palette of reds, oranges, yellows, and blues creates a sense of energy and harmony. Blending portraiture with still life, the artwork celebrates beauty, imagination, and the richness of ordinary moments, inviting viewers into a world of color, serenity, and contemplation.”
7. Held by Pattern by Niusha Derakhshan

Medium: Oil on Stretched Canvas
Dimensions: 19 7/10 × 14 3/5 × 1 3/5 in | 50 × 37 × 4 cm with frame included
Price: US$1000
“This painting brings together a chair, a trailing plant, and a brightly patterned blanket in a quiet, open setting. I was interested in the contrast between the solid structure of the chair and the loose, growing forms of the plant. The yellow and purple checkerboard pattern adds a strong rhythm to the composition, while the greens and muted pinks create a softer atmosphere around it. I used expressive, visible brushwork and layered color to keep the objects feeling tactile and alive, balancing the stillness of the scene with a sense of movement.”
8. Cami by Marcela Del Rocio Ortega Garcia

Medium: Watercolor
Dimensions: 8 3/10 × 8 3/10 in | 21 × 21 cm
Price: US$600
“The composition leaves a generous amount of empty space around the figure, creating a sense of lightness, silence, and freedom. The shadow cast on the ground introduces movement and depth, while the balloon’s string creates a delicate connection between the girl and the space surrounding her.
This watercolor is inspired by the natural beauty of a little girl walking in the sunshine, accompanied by a colorful balloon and a flowing skirt. The scene evokes her joy and innocence, conveying the beauty of everyday moments and transmitting a universal message: childhood happiness transcends borders, cultures, and origins.
Each piece captures a spontaneous moment and invites the viewer to imagine what is happening. The small details—the helmet, the ribbons on the scooter, the dress, the balloon, the shoes, and the shadows—add personality and give each scene its own unique character.
The girls transform everyday scenes into poetic memories. They evoke freedom, discovery, movement, and that universal feeling of childhood that remains in our memories. They represent universal childhood memories.”
9. My Little Talisman by Yulia Odukalets

Medium: Oil On Canvas
Dimensions: 15 7/10 × 15 7/10 × 4/5 in | 40 × 40 × 2 cm
Price: US$650
“This painting was inspired by my yearly tradition of seeking out blooming poppies at least once each summer. Their intense red has always had a special effect on me, bringing energy, confidence, inner strength, and a brighter sense of life. In this work, the poppies become a small personal talisman — a reminder to notice beauty and embrace the vitality of the present moment. Expressive impasto gives the flowers a tactile, almost sculptural quality, while the quieter, watercolor-like background creates a contrast that makes their vivid red feel especially alive.”
10. (In) This by Dick Van Dijk

Medium: Watercolor On Paper
Dimensions: 14 1/5 × 11 1/5 in | 36 × 28.5 cm
Price: US$600
“(In) This is a water colour painting on paper. It explores closeness and intimacy through a dense composition of human forms that appear to fold, lean, and merge into one another. Rather than presenting clearly defined individual bodies, figures seem to emerge gradually from the accumulation of limbs, torsos, curves, and soft areas of colour. Bodies overlap, while arms and legs seem to belong simultaneously to different figures. Painterly marks, transparent washes, muted flesh tones, and fragments of stronger colour continually shift the perception of what you are looking at.”
