How to sell your art in 2024 |Marina Granger|

Watch & Listen to this podcast Episode.

On this week’s Arts to Hearts Podcast, we have the lovely Marina Granger with us. Our host Charuka and Marina have a very fascinating conversation where they talk about feng shui, morning rituals, EFT tapping, and creating a stellar elevator pitch.

Marina is an art consultant and founder of The Artist Advisory. She talks about practicing feng shui, and how her holistic approach has benefitted her in her creative life as well. For Marina, her mornings start with recording a voice memo, which consist of three steps: talking about what she is grateful for, what her intentions for the day are, and what her future dreams are. She talks about her dreams and intentions in present tense, as if they already have happened. According to her, it’s a good strategy as the mind is too gullible, and making such affirmations can truly help one achieve their dreams.

Marina loves to help artists out so they can realize the best strategy to carve their own path. She provides an excellent take on how artists can curate their elevator pitch, which consists of telling the clients why you do what you do, and what makes you special. In a world where selling your craft and your art can be tricky, it’s always a good idea to have a fresh approach towards curating your image!

Born in Ukraine, Marina moved to New York when she was seven. Marina has 15 years of experience working in the museums and galleries in New York City. With a master’s degree in Art History, she has worked with artists, curators, dealers, collectors, and consultants. She shares that if she would ever have the option to open her own gallery, it would have to be in New York city!

Tune in to this week’s podcast and listen to Marina talk about the artists and art world in detail!

**** – (): 00:47.33

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Absolutely, you were always a part of the community even before you knew it which book came about you. Yeah, so anyone who’s listening we I think you and I have already spoken for more than 40 minutes

**** – (): 00:54.34

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): That’s right exactly love it. So yeah.

**** – (): 01:04.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Even before we started recording? Yeah, um.

**** – (): 01:06.85

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Yeah, we had quite a warm up I mean I was pretty good I and I got to say I was late because you know it’s like genetic I think I have like a genetic thing for being late um, not too late.

**** – (): 01:16.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Is great So you’ve not heard what Indians are so Indians are actually like stereotyped for never being punctual and a lot of people stand by that for some reason like they make that that’s true.

**** – (): 01:27.46

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Oh okay, wow. So I definitely so while you were um, warming up for the podcast I ah shiruka was telling me oh well I you should really come to India because you like all these indian things. And you know this just underlines this I would really fit in.

**** – (): 01:50.52

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): But definitely now you’ve already you started like you have you you know about indian worshiping I dos you, you’re doing all of that I think and I think this is something that I feel like is a very um is a very um. Um, touched topic. Um, so I am a born I’m born in India I’m ah I’m a hindu by religion if that matters at all. But I think a lot of times we feel like where we are born and um the religion or the spirituality. Whatever we choose or we have been passed down is something that.

**** – (): 02:25.91

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): We have to I think there’s this this have to that this is who you are instead sometimes we are not just 1 thing. We’re so much more than one and sometimes it’s about this or that and I think I just love then I explore a lot what happens outside of India what happens outside of hinduism. And I I do love a lot of things that I have in my own culture but they are also like everybody. There are things that um that you may not believe in or you choose to look further and I think I love when night when there’s this intoc cultural change where we’re all continuous continuously learning from each other. And like making this like a more like I think it also makes you a better good like you shift perspectives I don’t know if that makes sense at all I don’t know why I’m saying that.

**** – (): 03:15.84

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): No I think it totally makes sense I Um so my my husband also does standup comedy and he always jokes he always. He has a joke about me. He goes my wife. She’s appropriating all the cultures.

**** – (): 03:23.96

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, oh wow.

**** – (): 03:33.38

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Um, and when he says that it’s much funnier than when I say it. But basically yeah, so but basically you know I totally agree with you I have been. Um.

**** – (): 03:37.64

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): When’s a great job.

**** – (): 03:47.44

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And dipping my toes into ah like I mentioned to you a little bit of kundalini um I am a certified reiki to practitioner I also am a certified classical chinese Feng Shui Pec practitioner

**** – (): 03:51.36

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 03:59.55

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, wow.

**** – (): 04:03.29

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh wow.

**** – (): 04:06.80

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And ah so I Basically um I’m really into the East I guess.

**** – (): 04:12.54

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh Wow doesn’t you’ve given a lot that I couldn’t find on the internet. So that’s ah, that’s that’s nice to know so part from being in the arts and being this is something like that you could be ah.

**** – (): 04:18.80

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Yes, yeah I am um.

**** – (): 04:26.99

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): If you were not where you are today.

**** – (): 04:29.69

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Yeah, well you know what? I’ve always been using these spiritual tools. Ah for my my personal business and ah lately I’ve been trickling them into the artists. Ah who I’m working with if they’re receptive to it I’m happy to share these tools with them.

**** – (): 04:33.62

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes.

**** – (): 04:42.48

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yes, okay.

**** – (): 04:46.22

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And so ah, recently I’ve been more comfortable coming out of the spiritual closet so to speak. Um and you know this is something that I really want to start to utilize so now when you go to my website. There is.

**** – (): 04:49.70

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes.

**** – (): 05:04.20

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Ah fe shui option. So I could do you know organize or not necessarily organize your space actually Feng Shui is not about organizing but I have worked with artists and gallerists on Feng Shui as well. So for their studio for their gallery.

**** – (): 05:04.47

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, and.

**** – (): 05:18.00

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah, wow.

**** – (): 05:22.17

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And I have such a fun story I would love to share with you about that? Um, so I have walked into my friend’s gallery here in New York city and I’m thinking oh you know what.

**** – (): 05:24.70

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Absolutely.

**** – (): 05:34.88

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): I’ll just do her feng shui real quick. It’s Saturday. It’s quiet. It’s basically a box so how difficult could it be. You know it’s just um, like a perfect square almost so um, it’s not too complicated. There’s not too much demarcation. So I did this for her and you know and just you know to keep it her privacy I won’t tell you who it is but I asked her is like hey did you get into a fight with a woman here because it was in the feng shui and she goes yes actually my my.

**** – (): 05:58.44

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 06:09.21

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, my client.

**** – (): 06:10.86

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Business partner and I when we opened this gallery. We got into tiff and she you know we’re fine now but she doesn’t work here anymore and so that was in the feng shui and then I said to her hey do this artwork.

**** – (): 06:19.40

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my good thing.

**** – (): 06:27.86

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Not sell on those walls but it sells on those walls and she was like yeah that’s so insane and so um, so I told her I was like okay look you know farsh shui is not 100% going to be the full lock that you get it.

**** – (): 06:33.92

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my god.

**** – (): 06:47.56

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Actually um in Feng Shui you have 3 types of luck you have the luck that you are born with so like your karma so to speak the luck you create with your hard work and then the luck that your environment brings you right? So she.

**** – (): 07:02.21

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Okay.

**** – (): 07:06.54

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Ah, functionctuary only enhances what you are working towards right? So just because artwork doesn’t usually sell on those walls doesn’t mean it never will. But I also decided I was like well I’ll do her home too because why not.

**** – (): 07:17.46

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 07:25.20

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 07:27.29

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): We still have you know we’re hanging out on Saturday um, and so I did her home and she asked me she goes marina I just really want to make money what can I do and so I told her a few things but 1 unusual thing was. I said well you need more metal in the bedroom right? need more metal. Um, either get a metal bed or a metal night stands. Um, and I and I said to her and if you get a metal bed. Don’t get the bed with the slats because the slats they actually.

**** – (): 07:47.12

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my god.

**** – (): 08:03.66

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Cut into your auric field when you’re sleeping and so it’s not very good. So but she said well I don’t even have the money to get new furniture right? now. It’s really intense and I said well whatever it is anything that has metal just bring it into your bedroom and she.

**** – (): 08:19.94

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Full main time.

**** – (): 08:23.28

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And she said to me well and you could tell this person was very creative. She goes what if I put aluminum foil under my mattress and I said well you know I Never really thought of it. But it’s actual metal. So maybe that’ll work.

**** – (): 08:34.78

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, for my birdman.

**** – (): 08:42.14

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And so she resisted a little bit because you know with Feng Shui there’s always a little bit of resistance. Um, when you first get told to do something because real feng shui what it does is it helps you align with your soul’s purpose and when you don’t. Um, when you’re too ah, kind of almost uncomfortable aligning with it. Your personality keeps you in check and it says no, we can’t move your bed or no, we’re not going to move your desk or whatever but eventually she really needed. The money so she put aluminum foil under her mattress. And yeah, why? not all right? She was like what do I have to lose except for this aluminum foil. So so she um then six days later.

**** – (): 09:17.78

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, at least take that first play. Why not.

**** – (): 09:27.45

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): And is fine here I mean.

**** – (): 09:36.63

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): And I didn’t ask her for specifics because she could have started negotiating it sooner but six days later made the biggest sale her gallery has ever made. So ah, you know it could be coincidence or it could be a feng shui. So um and.

**** – (): 09:45.80

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, wow.

**** – (): 09:49.85

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my god.

**** – (): 09:54.33

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): You know I have to say like the reason I started practicing Feng Shui was because I started my company. The artist advisory in a ah different apartment in New York City that was much smaller and my business was literally um the the only area I could use was the. Ah, part of my kitchen where there was like a table like the eaten part and I wanted to make it cute I wanted to design it but I had no idea what to do and so I remembered oh there’s something called Feng Shui and and I started to really look into it and once i.

**** – (): 10:28.18

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my god.

**** – (): 10:34.11

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Dove into it I really went deep and I um I didn’t at first I started to look at very general Feng Shui but then I realized it was very um, it wasn’t the best and then I went and I got a certification in.

**** – (): 10:35.41

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Wow.

**** – (): 10:53.94

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Flying Star Sen Yun Feng shui. So ah, which is like I want to say it’s like astrology for your house because it’s so precise the calculations. But I got to say the moment I So I put everything into place according to those calculations.

**** – (): 10:55.22

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh wow.

**** – (): 11:13.42

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Ah, my business went full-time and ah, everything just went so much smoother so ever since then if you know there’s an artist I work with and they’re open to it I am so happy to do feng shui for their studio.

**** – (): 11:14.10

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Wow.

**** – (): 11:32.51

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh well I love that this is something I’ve never heard I’m hearing this for the first time and I feel pretty excited about it like I think like and I think this is something that um I think as a creative I’ve learned.

**** – (): 11:32.54

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Or for their home. Yeah.

**** – (): 11:48.58

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Especially having like a regular creative practice and something like that because um I started to understand um like you know as an artist you have nobody looking over your head and nobody taking decisions for you. You take your decisions for yourself and that that isn’t only about um. You know I’ve been in both the places like building spaces for organization of being in an organization and being on my own and I switched those ruless every day in my life on Day- two-day basis and I realized like you know it’s so Much. There’s so much that’s already done when you work with someone or someone. They’re already taking care of your needs and you know making sure that you’re being productive or you’re making you’re getting the best out of you and everything like that. But when you’re on your own, especially as a creative. It’s you It’s you you you have to decide. What’s your structure how you bring the Maxim out of you. How are you like.

**** – (): 12:42.80

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 12:46.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): So like you know, even even having like a morning ritual I Never knew that I could like I needed that until I like pursued the path of being like ah like ah like an artist who was spending a lot of time creating by myself and I was like you know I need something to keep myself in check. Something emotionally in check Also keep making me motivated or like having studio rituals like when you go into the Studio. What are the things like so like this is another layer that I’ve not really heard about. But as someone who knows how important these things are to me as an artist when I’m having a certain kind of like.

**** – (): 13:06.49

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): You.

**** – (): 13:22.82

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Of practice knowing that there are also things like words like like what you said it’s I think it’s incredible.

**** – (): 13:32.57

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah, oh thank you and I ah you know it’s so important to make it a holistic thing because being you know I’m not a creative in the same sense that a visual artist is but.

**** – (): 13:39.75

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 13:45.33

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I think you are come on come on tell me look at your website look at your branding look at your business look at the fashion. How are how are you not excited. Oh you are a hundred percent creative

**** – (): 13:49.53

**** – (): Marina Granger

**** – (): Well thank you? Ah think Yes, yes, well thank you? Thank you I I feel Yes, no I am a creative fine I’ll accept it I am a creative.

**** – (): 14:07.27

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, is.

**** – (): 14:09.73

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): and and I feel very creative in my business. Ah, and 1 of the things that really helps me get grounded because you know when you’re creating something you have a million ideas and there’s so many things you want to do.

**** – (): 14:11.28

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 14:19.20

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, yeah.

**** – (): 14:26.57

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And you are thinking Well I don’t know if I even have all the time in the world to do this. How am I even going to get it done So it’s important to create these systems in which you can get everything done and I could even share one with you but I heard you say that you had a morning ritual and that is.

**** – (): 14:43.75

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 14:46.80

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): The absolute most important part of these sorts of systems. So um, I’m curious. Can we can I you’re interviewing me but I want to know what your boarding ritual is.

**** – (): 14:52.29

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah, absolutely no. Um so I’ll I’ll be very on it like we were also having this conversation even without like before recording so when I was um. Like I feel like I grow up and I was like naturally and I don’t believe that anymore like I think we’re naturally nothing we very mass ourselves into who we are so while I was growing up I was always like an all nighter I was best when my my mind would work like at night because there was a lot of peace. Things like that and I figured that I am someone who needs a lot of time by myself I can’t walk like when there is too much noise around me I need time by myself to understand what’s happening be be at night orman but when I started having like a studio practice being all and being like a creative like self-employed like this. Is a very isolating journey like it’s very isolating so I figured that you know, um I felt and as my goals were growing my work was growing and I think when I started to work with more and more people I think like even in the podcast or.

**** – (): 15:48.70

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 16:03.60

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Team or like other people like there was there was so many things that were happening and I needed to make sure that I was accommodating high and I didn’t want to show up on calls and to my work also exhausted and sleepy and like stuff like that I realized I needed to wake up early in the morning because this definitely wasn’t working. And it took me a really long time for us to just build that ritual of waking up early the moment I started waking up early I knew that I didn’t know what to do I mean I would get up and then I you know I would move around and then I would sleep up. And then I figured okay, you know then I know I remember I did arts way and I was like okay this is what I’m gonna do so Now. It’s been a couple of here. Yeah, you now I wake up in I just make sure I can do 3 things I wake up in the morning I Want to do yoga.

**** – (): 16:42.60

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yes, Julia Cameron sorry go ahead.

**** – (): 16:55.84

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): The second thing I want to do is and I not only have like I want I sleep on meditation and I wake up and I do yoga I have um I do guided that meditation with my yoga um guru and then I do my guide I love Abram Higgs I love to listen. Ah.

**** – (): 17:13.59

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yes.

**** – (): 17:14.80

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): And the morning. The next thing I do is I listen couple of audios videoss from ha. The third thing that I do is journal so I I want to do my morning piece is I haven’t been the best because my in the last few last few days but I think I didn’t day every day I do this. I know how much good I am feeling in my life. How much clear I am feeling how much better and I think like you said having a structure like in any form like even in my studio in my life I think it makes me feel so much safe mentally and then creative.

**** – (): 17:44.71

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Oh.

**** – (): 17:50.92

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah, yes, 100% and that’s such a beautiful morning practice. Beautiful virtual because you know when you wake up in the morning we’re in a way we’re all very very lucky and so abundant when it comes to this because.

**** – (): 17:52.28

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I Don’t know if that makes sense.

**** – (): 18:08.99

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): We get to choose what we want to do in the morning and how are we going to structure that day for those of us who aren’t going straight to a job which I did for many many many years. Um I feel so lucky to even be able to do a ritual like this. But I think that.

**** – (): 18:16.20

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, now.

**** – (): 18:23.78

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Right? That’s true.

**** – (): 18:28.90

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): It’s so cool that it it almost is like checking your email when you get into your office job because you are structuring your day from this ritual.

**** – (): 18:37.64

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, and I hate that one one thing that I’ve really took me a long time and I think 1 thing I still hate myself the day I do that is pick up my phone and open it that first in the morning I know I’m screwed because this is what I’m doing wrong I don’t want to be doing that but learn. Okay, you tell me yours.

**** – (): 18:52.21

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, yeah, yeah, okay wait I’m okay, okay, okay so I have this ah kind of a shorter morning ritual I imagine yours takes a little bit longer. But I’m.

**** – (): 18:57.31

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): First let’s okay, yeah, go let’s go with that I’ll ask my second question after that let me hear yours.

**** – (): 19:12.60

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Very interested in doing yoga in the morning I’m almost there. Um, it’s really hard to get myself to exercise. Okay, so the first thing I do is I actually I open up a voice memo on my phone and I record.

**** – (): 19:18.00

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Listing next thing.

**** – (): 19:31.12

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): A voice memo in 3 parts. What I’m grateful for in the present tens ah what my intention for the day is as if it already happened. So for example, if you’re an artist and you want to do this. You could say something like well I sold. 3 paintings today or whatever it is and then exactly yeah and because when you do that and your mind hears it your mind.

**** – (): 19:48.58

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, oh you So you’re actually saying like you’ve already done it.

**** – (): 20:02.18

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Is very gullible. It believes everything you say so when you do that and you say as if you’ve already done it your mind feels a lot more comfortable getting into that space right? and um and I want to? Okay so let me I’m like what do I tell you first.

**** – (): 20:13.37

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 20:19.26

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I.

**** – (): 20:22.48

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Okay, and so the third part of this voice memo are my future desires. My big long-term goals as if they’re already happening. So for example, um, you know if you’re an artist you could say something like. Well I’m represented by a gallery in l a in New York and in Paris you know or whatever it is and so again because your mind is so Gallible. It believes everything you say and there’s a wonderful book about this called your word is your wand. It’s from like the 1920 s or thirty s so it’s really, um, funny to read. But the point of it is that we end up using these words like ah try or could um and they become passive. So when we say I’m going to try to do that your mind already thinks. Well maybe I won’t actually be able to do it right? and and it gives you an out but part of the reason for that second part of the morning practice where I say.

**** – (): 21:20.13

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh well. Yeah.

**** – (): 21:32.26

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): What I my intentions for the day are is if I’ve done them already is because it helps my ego feel comfortable reaching the upper limit and I wanted and have you heard of this have you read gay. Yeah so um, for.

**** – (): 21:40.83

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Open yeah upper limit. But yes, yes, and I love him I Love this birth same leave.

**** – (): 21:50.98

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I Love Gay hendrix. So there’s a book for for those of you who haven’t read it. It’s called the big leap and for the artists that I work with I always advise them to read this book. It’s like required reading because.

**** – (): 22:04.71

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I think him Elizabeth Gilbert Julia Cameron these 3 people. Um, and I think author of um, the ah bor of art I forgot his name I think these four people I think yes oh my god.

**** – (): 22:17.13

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Ah, ah, Steven pressfield yes, got me through my master’s thesis. Yeah I know.

**** – (): 22:21.23

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Like I feel like I don’t know what I don’t think what I would do without them I keep coming back to them keep coming back to them.

**** – (): 22:32.80

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I really want to read the big leap again. But the principle of that book is that you know our ego it operates between these 2 parallel lines the baseline and the upper limit and the baseline is everything that we’re used to and we can’t fall below it because we feel uncomfortable right.

**** – (): 22:33.70

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Same email.

**** – (): 22:42.33

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Wow.

**** – (): 22:49.75

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 22:51.59

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): We know that we’re going to have to make our housing payment or um, eat a certain type of food. We won’t do anything less. Um, and so we find ways not to fall below the baseline because it doesn’t feel comfortable below it. So once we approach the upper limit which are biggest goals right? for me, it’s going on Oprah um, so you know as we approach these as we approach these goals. It feels a little bit uncomfortable and we start to self-sabotage.

**** – (): 23:12.64

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh you ran.

**** – (): 23:22.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah, yeah.

**** – (): 23:24.20

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And that’s that nervous feeling you get when you know somebody might reach out to you and offer you a big opportunity and you’re thinking I don’t even know how to respond to this? Um, so that sort of morning practice where you record that memo that voice memo. So.

**** – (): 23:32.38

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I know I Love you.

**** – (): 23:41.14

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I’m going to try this one.

**** – (): 23:43.91

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): First part is what you’re grateful for in the present tense second part is what your intention for the day is as if it already happened and third part are are your long-term intentions long-term goals as if they’re happening and I got this morning practice from.

**** – (): 23:45.13

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Text. So.

**** – (): 24:03.65

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, a really wonderful. Um I don’t know magical Queen Gala darling and um, yeah, yeah, so she’s really amazing and I um.

**** – (): 24:10.26

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yes, oh yes I follow her.

**** – (): 24:19.37

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I’ve been doing this now for 3 years this morning practice and so that’s one part of my morning and the next thing is I do an eft tapping ah eat. Yeah.

**** – (): 24:20.20

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Wow.

**** – (): 24:31.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh Wow I Love that too I Just I’ve started doing this as well. But only on this when I’m too stressful and I don’t know if you know cat um, sweet taught me that and I think oh I Love that.

**** – (): 24:42.94

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yes, yes, yes, ah it is the best tool we could have and you know yes, it’s so good to just tap when you’re feeling stressful right um. And for those of you who are watching I ah I also even say you know there are are 10 or 11 points in your body you tap here on top of your head I do it with 2 handsome people. Do it with 1 um on top of your eyebrows the side of your eyes under your eyes.

**** – (): 25:04.57

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 25:14.38

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Here We are. Yeah yeah, yeah.

**** – (): 25:15.54

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Over here you know over there on your clavicles and then where your bra would be over here and then like this and so when you’re doing this tapping your program when you start on the Karate chop point you’re programming out something that feels bad So when you’re having anxiety or. Anything that overwhelming feeling in the beginning of the day or sadness or whatever you want to get rid of you can tap here, but ah, you know you don’t have to go through the full thing because sometimes you don’t even have the time.

**** – (): 25:48.65

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, was and.

**** – (): 25:52.19

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): So at the very least when you’re having these feelings just tap here and say you know even though I’m feeling so anxious about something blah Blah Blah mom. Yeah oh my gosh. So.

**** – (): 25:58.91

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Can you also mention the moment for people who are not listening like not doing but listening to the podcast. Yeah.

**** – (): 26:08.80

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Good point. Um, so basically you would tap on the Karate chop point it is ah between ah the start of your pinky and your wrist on the side of your hand and you tap there to get rid of something to get rid of an emotion.

**** – (): 26:20.17

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes.

**** – (): 26:28.50

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And there are times when you know you’re in public and you feel an overwhelming negative emotion. You want to get rid of so I always tell the the artists I work with or my clients just tap here and say you know there’s a script you can follow. So even though.

**** – (): 26:43.13

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, yeah I can though.

**** – (): 26:46.39

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Insert The negative feeling I deeply and completely love and respect and forgive myself and so when you tap there and you say that you don’t even have to say it out loud. You could think about it then you can remove that feeling I’ve even done this when I’m looking for parking spots and in my mind I’m thinking I’m.

**** – (): 27:07.71

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Ah, yeah.

**** – (): 27:08.11

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And a find one I’m never going to find one and then I sit there at the red light and I do my little tapping on my karate chop point and Boom I see a spot because I was already having this confirmation bias that I wasn’t going to fight. Um, but you know the wonderful thing about tapping is.

**** – (): 27:18.10

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my God Oh my god.

**** – (): 27:25.66

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Also if you have a good feeling that you want more of you can tap more of that in so you don’t have to start on this karate chop point you can actually just start at the top of your head and say hey I’m feeling so good today and just go through the full thing.

**** – (): 27:28.17

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, yeah.

**** – (): 27:42.88

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh I Love this. You know what? but go ahead.

**** – (): 27:44.74

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, so you know that so I always? Yeah oh I I wanted to just say um that I always. Think of okay, well what feels what feeling do I want to lean into today and I do a 2 or 3 minute tapping through it. So it’s the voice memo the tapping and then I I really like to go for a little walk with my dog.

**** – (): 28:13.66

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Lot. Yeah.

**** – (): 28:17.30

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, the ah bakery next to us and get like my favorite pastry but that doesn’t always happen because my dog walks really slow and I might have a meeting Um, but I got to say.

**** – (): 28:24.56

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 28:29.97

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, logistical letters. Yeah.

**** – (): 28:33.52

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Logistical hers. We got to work this one out. Um can’t tap it out. Okay, but um, you know, even if you can’t get to a morning ritual in the morning you can get to it any time of the day to center yourself. Yeah.

**** – (): 28:45.97

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, yeah I think that’s that’s very really valid and I think that’s something that that really changed my perspective and of why I became so more more commented but like you know, being an artist or being a creative. And like I said you’re also key to view definitely are and you know these are things that I think how we always choose our lives to be like you know we have these expectations of how things ah how well ideal lives would be. And I like you know there is. There’s definitely another anger another way of things happen and the moment I got introduce 2 things like these and I was like this is it I mean this is really how I want to live a life. Um, and there are very few people who actually integrate like.

**** – (): 29:30.65

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 29:37.62

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): And approach like this that is not That’s just not skill based in the sense that if you’re an artist advisor. Let’s say you’re not just focusing on. Um you know the pnls or like how much you’re making how much you’re losing how much money you’re putting in the business. How much you’re selling or your marketing and I feel like.

**** – (): 29:54.38

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And.

**** – (): 29:56.58

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Even though those skills are definitely important I think the biggest block when you take a jump and you want to take a lead is your mindset and how to get control of your mind and how to believe in yourself more or how to you know, um, create that. Not only the physical environment I feel like the mental environment and I can speak for myself for sure I’ve had terrible terrible 2 years in my life and in spite of that I’ve been like maybe it I haven’t had my best speed how I would have expected but I’ve still made through I’ve done a lot.

**** – (): 30:24.71

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I.

**** – (): 30:30.39

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): If I didn’t have that infrastructure if I didn’t have these practices and I do get off the rails a lot of times but I know I start feeling like I’m at that position today I’ve been off my chart for a couple of days ah weeks and I know that that feeling is coming back that I don’t feel good and I know what I need to do now.

**** – (): 30:32.36

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I.

**** – (): 30:41.32

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, and.

**** – (): 30:49.39

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): And that has made so much of my difference. My question is what there are a lot of artists advisors, business advisors art consultants like you know, think like that you’re of course one of them. But you’re different I see that especially when I’m speaking to that to you? What makes.

**** – (): 30:53.29

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Power. Um.

**** – (): 31:08.40

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): You What has what brought you here when um, you combining not only these marketing or like you know things like that. But this this perspective of also building this sustainable and supportive and.

**** – (): 31:15.15

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 31:23.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Uplifting not only physical environment but also mental infrastructure for their business which is their creative zone. What brought you here? Why why? this.

**** – (): 31:30.49

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, yeah man oh that is such a beautiful question and thank you so much for asking it because it I truly am driven by the answer here. So i. Was working in galleries in New York City for 15 years from 2004 to 2060 for almost fifteen years um to Twenty Sixteen 2017 2017 so 14

**** – (): 32:04.31

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, oh and not do yeah I’m not the right person I do more I’d be more terrible than anyone else can be.

**** – (): 32:05.60

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I Don’t know if you do the math where this isn’t a math podcast. Um, but yeah, yeah I just I like to have a calculator in an excel to calculate. Okay, so oh well.

**** – (): 32:20.60

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um I can’t even operate in excel.

**** – (): 32:24.65

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Ah, you know it’s I I feel like I follow people on Instagram who like look at my excel trick and I’m like why is the algorithm showing me this anyway. So um, I worked in galleries for nearly fifteen years in New York City I worked in a museum ah as well and ah while I was. Meeting a lot of like really cool people in the art world and worked for really amazing people I did see that a lot of artists got the run around and it broke my heart because there were artists that would literally I was a gallery director and for ah their. Almost seven years and ah there were times when you know an artist would walk in off the street with their beautiful work of art and expect us to suddenly like take a look at it and while you know back maybe in the seventy s this was.

**** – (): 33:17.74

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Of yeah.

**** – (): 33:19.28

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Okay, to do or in the 80 s and there’s actually a good example of somebody who has done something like that and that’s Ivan Carp who had a gallery in Soho in New York City opened it next to Leo Costelli and the 1970 s and he would.

**** – (): 33:33.30

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Now.

**** – (): 33:38.61

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Always always if an artist walked in he would look at their portfolio. He would talk to them. He would listen to them and give them really clear honest advice and I actually witnessed him do this when I was eighteen years old and I was studying art history here in New York city

**** – (): 33:48.21

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): No.

**** – (): 33:58.44

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And 1 of my classes was a seminar where I had to I guess I was in 18 wow I was a senior in college. So I was twenty years old um so because I went into college a little early anyway. So.

**** – (): 34:15.00

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um.

**** – (): 34:16.90

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, ah one of the seminars was to ah study the ah art world in New York City and we would walk around we would each be assigned a neighborhood in New York City to give a gallery torah to our class. And we would interview the people in the galleries if they spoke to you know if they were so kind to speak to us about ah the structure of the gallery and all this stuff and so I was walking in to it was so cool. It was like the most valuable all class.

**** – (): 34:44.34

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I Love this exercise weird of the time. Um.

**** – (): 34:50.51

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, it was literally the only class out of um, going to college and graduate school and studying art history. This was the most valuable class because it did teach me a lot about the art world before I even worked in it. Um, and. Also or I guess I was already interning somewhere but it was so crucial. So just seeing this really really important gallery owner give their feedback to the artist was so amazing. So anyway. I really hated to see artists get the runaround and I realized hey you know with the internet we can do so many things artists can decide how they’re presenting their work. What is known about them. They truly get to curate their image. And on top of it. They get to connect to anyone and everyone you can message a a museum director on Instagram not that I would tell you to right? That’s not a great idea but that this is.

**** – (): 35:48.80

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 35:58.13

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 36:00.80

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): This is the thing you can find almost anyone’s email you can if you approach them properly if you kind of ah create this relationship I Always say to artists try to build an organic relationship with someone social media and then.

**** – (): 36:03.76

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 36:16.60

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 36:20.45

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Try it then you can go into a more concrete working relationship. But really it fascinated me. You could really get in front of anyone so I started ah this company. The artist advisory to give honest answers to artists to give them guidance. And 1 of my very first ah sessions I actually did a month of free sessions when I started this business because I wanted to really see what the business would look like and I’m so grateful that I did that because one of the artists that I gave a session to said to me. He’s like hey.

**** – (): 36:50.76

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 36:58.89

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Marina you’re like a guidance counselor for the art world and I said yes oh my gosh This is the the best marketing thing ever like this is a great slogan. So I’ve kind of been using that. But um, you know I always.

**** – (): 37:00.13

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I have.

**** – (): 37:17.49

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Wanted to give clarity to visual artists because that kind of thing was never taught in school. So yeah, and even if you didn’t go to art school. You should get this sort of clarity. Anyway, it’s an industry like anything else and if I know so much about it about.

**** – (): 37:23.22

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I Love that.

**** – (): 37:31.47

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 37:37.49

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Being on the other side I’m so grateful that I could speak up for the artist so to speak stand up.

**** – (): 37:44.48

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah I love that I was also looking at your website and I think we were um, there’s a lot of good content out there even on the website for sure but tell me something. Um, what do you think is one of the most. Um.

**** – (): 38:02.41

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Important things for artists to look out in today’s time anyone who wants to move further in their years um if I were to ask like you know if let’s say if it’s me if I’m asking you marina what is that 1 thing you would tell me anything that could be.

**** – (): 38:09.78

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 38:22.33

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): And I should focus on. Um I want to grow I Want to be successful I Want to be creative. What would that be.

**** – (): 38:25.74

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah, right? well look. This is another excellent question. Wow you’re like so good at this. Ah so so here’s the thing.

**** – (): 38:38.97

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um.

**** – (): 38:40.31

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Ultimately, it’s how you present yourself, but it all goes back to your intention because you want to be consistent with your message before you decide how you present yourself. So here’s the thing.

**** – (): 38:52.44

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Land.

**** – (): 38:56.62

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): You need to really figure out what your intention is and one of the most critical things that I teach the artists that I work with I also have been helping some businesses as well. So I’ve been working with a curatorial project I’ve been working with.

**** – (): 39:06.85

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 39:14.95

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Ah, sort of a gallery I’ve been working with businesses that are service-based as well and online but all run by creatives right? And that’s the common denominator here. But this is something I tell to every single person and.

**** – (): 39:22.66

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah now.

**** – (): 39:33.40

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): I’m not the one who came up with it really? um because you know I’m sure a lot of you have heard of Simon Sinek and he had a wonderful Ted talkg about why so but but let me back up here I love to overex explain. So.

**** – (): 39:39.32

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes. Um, yeah.

**** – (): 39:52.46

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, when it comes to visual artists specifically visual artists. I always tell them we have to come up with your elevator pitch because that’s going to outline your intention and it’s going to be in your message everywhere. It’s going to show up on social media. It’s going to show up on your website. It’s going to be the answer when somebody asks you? What do you do? and it’s going to be the first thing that you will say during a studio visit and this is there’s a very clear formula that I have developed um for the elevator pitch.

**** – (): 40:27.51

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Okay, okay.

**** – (): 40:32.17

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And so first you don’t tell people what you do you tell them? why you do it. So say why you do it then you want to say why you’re qualified to do it now. Let me tell you everybody’s qualified right.

**** – (): 40:35.89

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Okay, yeah.

**** – (): 40:49.70

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 40:51.54

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): It’s just what in your history. What in your past.. What about you makes it something so special that you’re doing this and then tell us why you’re doing it. So an example. Instead of saying Well I’m a realist painter and I paint nudes right? like okay that really sets you apart. Great Awesome! Um, But what if you said hey you know I’m really interested in human Anatomy as a matter of fact I went to medical school and decided to.

**** – (): 41:10.64

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Okay.

**** – (): 41:27.76

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Pursue a career in the arts instead because I loved Anatomy so much and so now I paint ah the nude figure and through the perspective of ah anatomy like that’s a whole different story.

**** – (): 41:41.86

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, yeah, I love that? Yeah yeah, absolutely.

**** – (): 41:46.66

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Do you see what I’m saying this is a pretty much on the notes and so once you develop this elevator pitch. You could stick it into your bio on social media so that when somebody looks at your profile. They read those few lines or that one line really and then. They get to see all of your work through your the way that you curated it for them right through that lens.

**** – (): 42:13.80

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): I Love that I love that this is going to be such an exciting learning for people who are listening and I mean anyone who’s listening to this episode. Why don’t you tag Marina and I and arts to hearts when you come off with your elevator page. What do you say and maybe Marina if you can.

**** – (): 42:19.33

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 42:27.64

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 42:32.50

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Maybe Vsha or we can like you know if you can if if somebody who liked to.

**** – (): 42:34.23

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah, yeah tag that would be so cool. Maybe they could tag they put it in their stories right? and they tag you and they tag me and then we’ll repost it I Love that? yeah.

**** – (): 42:41.92

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes. Yes, yes, let’s do that. So I’ll tag my once Ben we release this episode I will tag my elevator pitch for marina to see and everyone who wants marina to see her work your elevator pitch make sure that you.

**** – (): 42:56.78

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 43:04.38

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yes.

**** – (): 43:05.60

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): After you listen to this episode you write your elevator page. Um, you start with let’s recall the points I start with why why I do it.

**** – (): 43:15.12

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Why you do it Then what in what about you? ah makes this super special like what about you qualifies you to be an expert on the why and then.

**** – (): 43:27.80

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Perfect and third what I do yes yes.

**** – (): 43:32.85

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): What you do then? tell us you know I’m a real you know I make paintings or whatever it is um so I think that would be so cool and specifically because when we were talking before we started recording. You told me about all the different things you did, but.

**** – (): 43:48.64

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 43:51.56

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): What really pushed you to do all of those different things. There’s definitely a common denominator that is your why and then you you are this beautiful unique you and why your.

**** – (): 43:58.10

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yes.

**** – (): 44:09.32

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Qualified to do this and I say qualified I have to think of another word because we’re all qualified to do everything that we’re doing you know, But what about you makes it so special right? and this requires a little level of vulnerability. It’s kind of difficult.

**** – (): 44:10.34

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 44:15.88

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): That. Yes, yeah.

**** – (): 44:28.78

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, an artist that I’m working with right now. Ah, he was very much you know he’s from a very different generation does not want to be vulnerable very much at all. Ah, but he finally opened up a little bit and.

**** – (): 44:46.37

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, given.

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): His elevator pitch was so interesting and you know I for privacy I won’t share his name but I will tell you what the pitch is you know he said that um you know he’s really interested in how.

**** – (): 44:56.92

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 45:06.95

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): The internet has revolutionized the world and for him he feels very much blocked and when he’s on the internet. He even feels spaced out because it’s. Not something that is native to Him. He wasn’t born using the internet and so he feels excluded from the internet. So in response, he’s making abstract paintings that mimic the shapes of space to.

**** – (): 45:23.55

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes, yes. Yes.

**** – (): 45:42.31

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Explain how isolated he feels by the internet. Okay, so that as opposed to well I’m an abstract painter I’m based in this city. You know that is a whole different story because when you’re saying something like this.

**** – (): 45:44.93

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Your Wow Oh my goodness.

**** – (): 45:53.88

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 46:00.91

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): It doesn’t take very long to say as a matter of fact, the average elevator pitch takes you 15 seconds to say ah when you’re at a party and you say something like this when you are at a studio visit when somebody is at your studio with a studio visit and you tell them this. There are so many questions that come up.

**** – (): 46:06.66

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah. Yeah.

**** – (): 46:17.82

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Now.

**** – (): 46:19.95

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And they feel so comfortable around you because all of a sudden you’re vulnerable to them and when you’re vulnerable to them as Rene Brown says when you’re vulnerable. It makes you feel it makes you.

**** – (): 46:30.56

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 46:35.85

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Appear much more powerful.

**** – (): 46:38.54

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Right? And I think it also like I love I mean it’s I know that vulnerability has become like a trend or like you know, um the Menelian millennial thing or something but I do feel like um.

**** – (): 46:53.90

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): It’s also very uplifting if not uplifting like if I don’t know fleeing in the sense I think um to wear so many layers is very hard and to project yourself and like to know what to say when to say and all of those things when you just. Say what is your truth I think there is very little room for um, you know you know what? I mean like you know going wrong like I know sometimes then like we all try to be like I’m someone who’s very like I would say what I’m feeling and I don’t like to keep too many videos and um.

**** – (): 47:20.24

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah, um.

**** – (): 47:22.96

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, yeah.

**** – (): 47:30.68

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And the end.

**** – (): 47:33.12

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): But I know when I do when I do I am just I’m just so messed up in my brain I’m like what did I say how should am I saying the right thing There’s no question of right and wrong when I’m saying what I’m I’m feeling because that’s my truth.

**** – (): 47:47.22

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Um, yeah, yeah I mean you have no filter right? I have no filter. Um, but yes, you’re right? You know why are we wasting so much energy hiding who we are right when.

**** – (): 47:53.41

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um.

**** – (): 48:00.60

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Matt so.

**** – (): 48:03.24

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Who we are is the reason people talk to us Anyway, it’s the reason that we build community and you know some of the most successful artists that I’ve worked with they’re successful because they weren’t afraid to hide who they are or their community. Um, and they actually.

**** – (): 48:05.89

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yes, yes.

**** – (): 48:16.98

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah, right right.

**** – (): 48:22.30

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Highlighted who they were they became vulnerable in their work. Um, and you know big shout out to um, an artist that I worked with um in the very beginning of the artist advisory and now she has a solo show opening up in L a.

**** – (): 48:38.62

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Hello.

**** – (): 48:40.92

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And you know I’m just so so happy for her and she’s very very vulnerable in the solo show but it comes off as very very powerful so shout out to aaliah Schrager congratulations and um, you know she.

**** – (): 48:51.58

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah, oh wow.

**** – (): 48:59.77

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Actually created ah a performance art piece as a um, she was like well you know what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna do performance art on Instagram and I’m gonna be a sexy Instagram model. So.

**** – (): 49:13.19

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, oh wow.

**** – (): 49:15.93

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Ah, now it’s like almost seven years ago she starred an account where she was a sexy Instagram model to sort of mock being a sexy Instagram model. Um, and it totally took off it went it went gangbusters.

**** – (): 49:23.94

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Oh my goodness.

**** – (): 49:32.70

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And right now that account has over five million organic followers and on that account. You know I’m sure a lot of people could judge her because of the way she poses and all these things but ultimately it’s a really strong statement and about.

**** – (): 49:32.10

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Um, yeah, oh my goodness.

**** – (): 49:40.88

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 49:51.73

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): The way that women are perceived in our era and I’m so so proud of her for finally you know putting it all together into 1 solo show under Leah Schrager and um.

**** – (): 50:01.18

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Wow.

**** – (): 50:08.31

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Because the personality of the 5000000 Instagram person is a different personality. It’s ona ona artist if you guys want to look her up. But um, you know it’s because she was so open about who she is. She’s so vulnerable.

**** – (): 50:16.24

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Okay.

**** – (): 50:27.50

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): And so it comes off as like super super powerful. So she’s having her solo show in la and at gruen gallery I don’t know when this is going to be released if it’s going to be before or after or whatever. But um, it’s opening you know September September Twenty twenty

**** – (): 50:29.80

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): This is so that is the whole amazing.

**** – (): 50:40.96

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): And any case Yes I hope so I hope it’s life by then to anyone who’s listening I will link her profile and link to the galviatly so that you can find her but that but oh my God This is.

**** – (): 50:46.66

**** – (): 51:19.13

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Love about the arts I think um I love the holistic and the perspective in the sense of I’ve worked in a lot of different like fields and especially like not only just feel but also creative fields but I really love about being an artist is how it has no boundaries and.

**** – (): 51:24.94

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Him.

**** – (): 51:39.20

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): How your work is so much just more than your work. It’s about your life. It’s about what you’re doing. It’s what you believe in. It’s it’s the work that you’re doing on yourself and that does apply to other jobs and like stuff as well. But I think I Love how much artists are creative. People are aware of these things and.

**** – (): 51:41.00

**** – (): Marina

**** – (): Yeah.

**** – (): 51:58.96

**** – (): charukaarora

**** – (): Are interested and then they bet on themselves I Think that’s very amazing and people like you who support and create these structures to handle of like you know to guide them and to be the guidance counselor. Ah.

Marina Granger

Marina Granger

Marina Granger has nearly 15 years of experience working in the museums and galleries in New York City. She holds a master’s degree in Art History and a special place in her heart for artists.

Her work has brought her in close contact with a plethora of players in the art world; artists, collectors, curators, dealers, and consultants. Granger has also curated independently and contributed to gallery exhibition catalogs. It is her advice and experience that she wishes to share with you.

Since starting The Artist Advisory in 2018, Granger earned a Certification in Classical Chinese San Yuan Feng Shui and became a Reiki Master. In addition to her practical experience and analytical skills, Granger has been using these spiritual tools to guide artists and businesses towards success.

Marina started her business, The Artist Advisory, in 2018. Her passion for helping artists largely came from her experience of working as gallery director for almost 7 years. It broke Marina’s heart that a lot of artists got the run around, and she wished that there was a system where artists could just walk into a gallery with their art, and gallery managers would talk to them and look at their portfolio. Eventually, she worked towards a creating sustainable and uplifting environment for her business!

As Marina started her own company, she also began to show interest in feng shui. What started as a general interest soon led Marina to become a certified practitioner. She’s always been into using religious tools, and feng shui really cleared up her vision, something she loves to do for her friends as well.

Morning rituals to abide by

Talking about her morning rituals, Marina shares that they are important as they can ground you. While she loves yoga, at the moment her morning routine consists of recording a voice memo on her phone. She divides this ritual in three parts. The first part consists of talking about things she is grateful for, the second part is about her listing down her intentions for the day, as if they have already happened. The third part of the voice memo is about her future desires. This last part is important as for Marina, it’s all about making her ego get comfortable with the idea of reaching the upper limit, an idea that came to her through the book Your Word Is Your Wand.

Marina explains the idea of baseline and upper limit, and how our ego operates between these two parallel lines. While people can stay above the baseline, as it feels comfortable to them, they are reluctant to reach their upper limit, which consists of all the dreams you’ve had. According to Marina, sometimes when there is a chance of us getting to the upper limit (our biggest goals), we can self-sabotage ourselves, because it is something it of our comfort zone. This is the reason why talking about your future dreams as if you’ve already achieved them can be helpful.

Another morning ritual Marina talks about is EFT tapping. EFT tapping can really help you manage your anxiety and stress. She admits to using this strategy while looking for a parking spot, as it always works. There are 11 points in your body, and Marina is a supporter of using those points to access your body’s energy and send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress. EFT cannot only be used to just get rid of a certain energy, but to also add back positive feelings!

Creating a stellar elevator pitch

In world where every piece of information is at the tip of our fingers, it can also become tricky to stand out. That is where Marina comes in as she knows exactly how to grab your client’s attention. For Marina, it’s important that artists build an organic relationship with someone on social media and then they can try and build a more concrete working relationship.

When marina started out, she did a month of free sessions where she wanted to see what the business would look like, and also help other artists in the process by giving them the much-needed clarity. She focuses on the way artists present themself, something that goes back to their intention. The most important thing for artists is about being consistent with their message before you decide how to present yourself. And that’s why artists must put effort in their elevator pitch.

A good elevator pitch, according to Marina, is one where instead of focusing on what you do, you talk about why you do it. Start with the reason you became an artist, the reason why you create what you create, and it will rope in your clients instantly. After that, move on to what makes you special, or more precisely, why you are qualified to do what you do. This is the message that will go in your bio online, and those few lines can really make an impression on the reader.

Who we are is the reason people talk to us, it’s the reason that we build community.

An important aspect of crafting a good pitch is by being vulnerable, as this is the only way you can truly be yourself. Hiding who you are and curating an artificial image cannot help you, as it’s the vulnerability that will make people feel comfortable around you. One you become open and vulnerable, it will make you appear much more powerful.

Being vulnerable allows you to form connections, and that is also something that many successful artists will have in common; lifting the veil and showing others who they are. Ultimately, it all comes down to being honest with your craft and your work!

Anyone who is dedicated to being an artist, can be an artist.
