Her work was displayed in Flowers Gallery, Dacia Gallery, Wilkinson Hall, Salmagundi Club, Palm Beach Design Center, and TC. Her recent murals can be viewed in multiple restaurants, hotels, and Long Island, Miami, and New York residential spaces. She quotes the artist Claude Monet: “I would like to paint the way a bird sings.”

1. Lia, how do you approach creating large-scale murals differently from smaller canvas pieces, and what draws you to each?

Typically, I start by drafting my project by hand or using digital tools. Once that’s done, I approach the mural similarly to canvas paintings—beginning with sketching, measuring proportions, and setting up the overall composition. While I might feel a bit more daunted when working on canvas, there’s no fundamental difference between creating a mural and a canvas piece; the principles remain the same. What truly sets murals apart is the exhilarating experience of transforming a wall into a vibrant work of art, breathing life into the space.

2. Having exhibited internationally, how do different cultural experiences influence your work and exhibitions?

Having connections across various fields is incredibly valuable. It broadens my perspectives and enhances my creative visions. I constantly feel a link between my art and the opportunities that arise from these connections.

3.  What does a solo show mean to you, and how do you decide which pieces to include to best represent your vision?

It requires significant effort and dedication to develop a cohesive series of artwork centered around a specific theme. I find a deep connection in portraying nature, feminine figures, and floral designs, yet I also have a passion for crafting distinctive abstract pieces.

4. You’ve created murals in unique spaces like medical centers and yacht clubs. How do you approach art for public or institutional spaces, and what do you hope people experience?

I design the art to invite viewers to engage visually and emotionally, prompting reflection, conversation, and a deeper connection to their environment.
Ultimately, I aim for people to have a lasting impression, whether it’s a moment of serenity in a baby room or hospital or a spark of adventure in a yacht club, hotel, or restaurant. I want the artwork to enrich their experience and contribute optimistically to the space’s ambiance.
Through this approach, I aim to create murals that not only beautify the environment but also serve a purpose, enhancing the lives of those who interact with them.

5. With accolades like the American Art Award, how have these recognitions shaped your artistic journey and process?

This award set a benchmark for quality in my work. Knowing that my art has been recognized at a high level encourages me to maintain or exceed that standard in my future I feel it has a multifaceted impact on my artistic journey. They validate my work, open up new opportunities, and catalyze growth and evolution in my artistic practice. Ultimately, these recognitions serve as both a reflection of past accomplishments and a motivation to pursue new goals in my art.

6. You’ve participated in group shows like “Take Home a Nude” at Sotheby’s. What do you enjoy about collaborating with other artists, and how does it influence your work?

Well, venues like Sotheby’s attract collectors, curators, and art lovers, providing an excellent platform for networking and engaging with individuals who are passionate about art. This exposure allows me to see how others interpret similar themes or concepts, which can be inspiring and thought-provoking. Engaging with fellow artists fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas. These conversations can spark new thoughts about my work, encouraging me to experiment with techniques or approaches I might not have considered before.
