A Studio Visit and Interview with Artist Supatporn Posoknistakul

Stepping into Supatporn Posoknistakul’s studio feels a bit like entering a quiet pause in the middle of everyday life. This interview follows her through the way she works, the thoughts that guide her paintings, and the small moments that shape her days as an artist. She talks openly about how she begins each morning in silence, how ideas arrive when she stops trying to force them, and how her past experiences have prompted her to examine closely what truth and faith mean to her.
As she answers each question, you can picture her space coming to life. A little poodle is dozing under her chair, utterly unaware that it has become her unofficial studio companion. The room carries the scent of fresh petals from her current experiments, mixed with paint and a soft trace of papercray. She describes her corner by the curtain where natural light settles gently, the spot she always returns to when she needs to breathe and focus.
Although she doesn’t mention exactly where the studio is located, her stories make it easy to imagine the atmosphere inside it. This introduction opens the door to a conversation that feels warm and sincere, offering a clear sense of who she is, how she creates, and what she is searching for through her art.

Supatporn is a visual artist exploring the quiet space between faith, perception, and the unseen connections that shape life. With nearly 20 years of experience in belief-based industries, her work reflects the idea that every belief, spiritual or personal, holds its own kind of truth. She paints from what she learns through each philosophy or faith. Through her art, Phon intends to invite viewers to slow down, to sense the stillness between things, awareness, and to rediscover faith as the gentle thread that ties all existence together.

1. Can you describe your typical day in the studio and your creative process?
I usually start by sitting quietly, trying to think of nothing, then when something comes up, I begin to draft and paint directly on the canvas, following intuition rather than a plan, so each day feels like a new mini-adventure.

2. What is the primary inspiration behind your current body of work?
Truth and faith are my primary inspirations. After passing through quite hardships, even a time when my heart stopped, I began to see how fragile and fleeting life is. I realized that sometimes what we think is “something” might actually be nothing at all. These reflections made me question what truly holds meaning. Through painting, I try to express that awareness and the beauty that exists in every breath of life.
3. What is your favorite memory or incident from your studio?
One time, I accidentally splashed blue paint all over my new curtain and red paint across my white shirt (like a nosebleed). It was chaos for a second, but somehow, it made me laugh. Now the curtain carries a mark of that moment, and I still wear white anyway, whether it is easier to get messed up. Maybe that’s part of learning to live with the stains and finding beauty in the accidents (lol).

4. Do you have any studio assistants, or do any visitors, like pets or kids, often accompany you?
There is a little poodle who loves to nap under my chair while I paint. Does that count as an assistant? He doesn’t help, and I’m always afraid of accidentally stepping on him when I get up! (lol)
5. How would you describe a dream studio for yourself?
My dream studio would be a space filled with warm, natural light flowing through soft curtains, calm, and open. I imagine a place that is big enough to lay a large canvas flat on the floor and paint beside it without me crashing everything around, and more importantly, with the sound of wind or birds quietly blending into the background.

6. What does your studio smell of right now?
Recently, I’ve been experimenting with flowers, so the scent of petals fills the room, mixed with paint and a hint of paper clay I like to use.
7. If you get a chance to set up your studio anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’d love to have a studio in a city that still breathes with nature, somewhere like Kyoto. A place where tradition, calm, and creativity coexist. I like the balance between nature and city life, not too far from people, but still close enough to hear the sound of greenery.

8. Can you discuss any ongoing projects or plans you have for your work?
I’m currently in an experimental phase, exploring new materials and forms beyond what I usually do. Lately, I’ve been drawn to working with flowers because of their connection to human beliefs. I will update that in my channel soon.
9. How do you organise your space?
Honestly, it’s a little messy and unorganised. I always keep a corner for painting, schedule big cleaning days, and take care of my materials, but sometimes laziness takes over them all (lol).

10. What is your favourite corner in the studio?
The painting zone is my fav! It’s right beside the curtain where the light gently pours in. It’s quiet, calm, and feels like a small world where time slows down, allowing me to focus on the art piece in front of me.

Supatporn’s studio has a quiet atmosphere that envelops anyone who steps inside. Light drifts through the soft curtains, paint jars sit where they were last used, and her miniature poodle sleeps close by, adding a gentle sense of life to the room.
The space feels honest and unhurried, the kind of place where ideas arrive at their own pace. Nothing is staged or polished; it simply holds the calm she works from. Her studio ends up feeling less like a workroom and more like a small corner of the world where she can breathe, paint, and listen to whatever comes next.
