About the Artist

MILEEN (MARIE-HELENE) MALBRAIN Living and working in BELGIUM Born on december 11, 1958 in Leuven. GENERAL TRAINING From 1960 to 1976 she studied Latin Sciences and after school she attended lessons music and drawing in the academy of Dendermonde. In 1981 she graduated as a bio engineer in Leuven. In the following period she was involved in biochemical research at the Faculty of Medicine. During that time her great fascination arose for research strategy as well as for the hidden natural beauty that can be seen under the microscope In 1989 she got her teacher’s degree in physics and taught sciCorona time: our personal facade hidden behind the mouth masks. Like so many others, I felt muggy and sometimes out of breath behind these masks. That’s why I stitched it full of openings as lines or grid patterns. In the collage I apply different colors: red for fear, orange as a warning, blue for the beautiful skies (in the first lokdown) and yellow because the sun was present almost every day; good for body and mind. But during the full or partial lockdowns there was a tangle(skein) of many questions and thoughts in my brain; exhausting.

About the Artist’s Work:
