About the Artist

I’m Sara. I’m a colour-obsessed painter, print maker and art educator. My paintings strive to better connect us to ourselves and to the natural world. Because I believe the days are always more transformative when there are some mountains and water around. I have 16 years of painting experience and a degree from the University of British Columbia in Visual Arts, specialising in painting and printmaking. This formal training has continuously informed both by personal art practice and my practice as an art educator. My artwork centers around the powerful and transformative element found in nature. After four years as a wilderness guide and outdoor educator, leading people on extensive month long wilderness trips in the remote wilds of Canada, I have seen the transformative power of being in and turning to nature. These experiences made me passionate about connecting to nature through art as a means to grow and reflect.

About Artist’s Work:

Imagine: You are out walking and suddenly the last golden light of the day catches on the surface of the water, or snow, or mountain peaks, or clouds. It pulls you into a reverie of silence and timelessness.

The bright light of the earlier day cannot hold the depth of itself here, the richness of the dusk. Your thoughts pool and eddy, slow into themselves.

There is only yourself, and this light, and this moment with the earth. And it is freeing, somehow, in some small and important way.

My goal is to evoke this feeling; a fleeting moment of light, a moment with the earth, a moment of belonging. We sometimes hide our light, we deny our truth, we forget who we are. At least I do. Yet if we are lucky, there is a place or person in our life that reminds us that we are not separate. We belong. If my work serves others, this is why.

Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that

first, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom.

What does “Home” mean to you:

Home is where the heart is. Home is a place that shelters, that gives strength, that helps us be our true selves and shine our true light to the world. In my work, this home is found in nature, at the foot of mountains at dusk or
the edge of a snowy wood. I create art to make people feel more alive and connected to their truest self. So they can bravely shine their light and change the world. It can be hard to share your vulnerability to the whole world. I strive to provide a breath-taking symbol of human transformation and self-healing/care/awareness for those who want to be reminded of this journey or encouraged to begin it.

My work provides people with a visual, tangible symbol of their own inner transformation.
My paintings strive to capture a clearly articulated feeling: That nature both reflects and allows us to feel more connected to our true selves. Let Your Light Shine. Be Your Own Mountain. Find your way back Home.
