Are you looking for the next best opportunity to present yourself and your artwork? But if you find it difficult to know where to look for them, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.

Because, as a community for artists, We are aware that there are times when it may be challenging to identify an appropriate website to search for the opportunity that offers the most potential for success.

To help you out, we have curated a list of 5 opportunities you can apply for in October.

So keep on reading to learn about it all.

1. The Gallery. ORG. UK

The Gallery is inviting artists aged 18 and over to apply to present a high-impact artwork as part of the second season of The Gallery.

Our world is in flux. The list seems endless: from the effects of climate change to war, spiraling energy costs and inflation, seismic constitutional change – kings and queens and national identities – to debates around reproductive rights and gender politics.

Can art help decode what’s happening in the twenty-first century? The Gallery invites 10 artists from around the world to make art about The State We’re In.

The 10 selected proposals will be reproduced at scale and displayed for millions to see in public sites traditionally reserved for advertising across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

This is an opportunity for artistic exposure on a grand scale and to be part of the national debate. The Gallery, Season 1 exhibited on street billboards, digital screens, bus shelters, and cinemas. The artworks were seen by over 12 million people across the U.K.

Submissions must be proposals for two-dimensional works in any media. This includes, but is not limited to, photography, painting, drawing, text work, prints, mixed media, and collage.

Produced by Artichoke and conceived in collaboration with Creative Director Martin Firrell. This project is supported by the Out-of-Home* industry.

*The term Out-of-Home refers to any visual advertising media found outside of the home, including on-street billboards, digital screens, bus shelters, and train stations.

2. Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics

INHABIT // Artist-in-Residence

The INHABIT Artist-in-Residence Program of the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics invites artists from various disciplines to collaborate with our team of scientists and researchers. The integration of artistic thinking and knowledge as reflective practices in their own right is an important dimension of the institute’s mission. For this the presence of art and the inspiration and challenge of artistic practice are essential. The interaction between the different perspectives creates a mutually productive space for both artists and scientists to work in.

For this reason, INHABIT invites artists to spend three months creating new work, or further developing an existing project, in a scientific research environment. Openness to the mission of the institute and interest and readiness to work together with individual researchers or research groups are naturally preconditions. During the residency, the institute will provide space, resources, and facilities for productive experimentation, dialogue, and collaboration. Work developed during the residency will be presented in cooperation with various local arts institutions in the form of an exhibition, performance, concert, or other mode of presentation, and complemented by discursive formats.
