Sara Schroeder

About the Artist

Sara Schroeder was born in Spokane, Washington and raised in Northern Idaho. She lives and works in Palmetto Bay, Florida. Schroeder completed her second year of fine art studies in 1998 and has since furthered her education and skills through self direction. Schroeder is a contemporary abstract painter. Her work is gestural, bright, and lively and addresses the interplay between the corporeal human experience and ethereal grounding space. Schroeder was named by the Miami Design Preservation League as the Art Deco Museum’s “Featured Local Artist” (2019, Miami Beach Art Deco Museum, Miami Beach, Florida), and her selected group exhibitions include the Roaring Artist Gallery “Powerful Little Things” exhibition (2021, virtual gallery) and The Studio at The Citadel “Set/Rise” exhibition (2021, Miami, Florida). Schroeder was chosen as Alto’s featured Miami artist for the luxury ride-share company’s “Alto + The Arts” initiative (2021, Miami, Florida). Schroeder’s work is in hundreds of private collections around the world.

About Artist’s Work:

Sara Schroeder’s art examines the interplay of our lived human experience and the elusive universal reality within which we exist. Schroeder’s compositions originate from observations of emotions and physical sensations which are interpreted intuitively into colors, textures, gestural marks, and rhythmic patterns. Her works on paper and canvas employ multiple mediums including watercolor, acrylic, collage, charcoal, soft pastel, tempera paint, and salvaged materials. Schroeder uses layering, scratching, subtraction methods, and collage to build interest and give visual form to conversations between corporeal existence and ethereal space. She is deeply influenced by the rich tropical and ocean hues of her surrounding environment and is partial to the vintage Art Deco palette preserved in Miami’s historic neighborhoods. Schroeder’s work is an invitation for the viewer to enter an introspective dialogue regarding both their internal home and their place in the whole of existence..

What does “Home” mean to you:

To me, the most genuine sense of home is found within ourselves. It’s that deep knowing that emerges when we silence the noise of the outer, physical world. It’s here, in this quiet, uniquely personal space, that the truth of who we are appears.
