Why we feel certain emotions when getting confronted with certain things w/ Michele-Louise: Artist Spotlight.

Artist Bio

Perceiving, empathizing, understanding, and wanting to pass it on in a new form, this motivation is characteristic of me as an artist and as a person, then as now.

I finished regular school and used my great interest in developing our society, economy, and law to work for the municipal system. Later, for a degree in land registration and property law, I worked as a notary and land registrar.

The experiences and encounters with so many different people, target groups, and demanding confrontations, in addition to the otherwise very abstract work, shape my artistic career to this day. Even after resigning from office, the knowledge I gathered impacted my perspective, especially about prevailing social structures. In addition to my thirst for knowledge, my interest in art developed very early on when I was a child.

As an introverted only child and the typical observer, I used artistic expression as an outlet to process the mass of impressions I received, but above all, to reproduce them.

This was expressed in my free time through poetry and music. Many years as a flutist in the regional orchestra later gave way to the fine arts, where I found the right tools for my artistic work and which have been my greatest passion for almost a decade.

Artist Statement

There are two worlds finding their place in my art today, my world of rational thinking and abstract processing and my world of unfiltered observing and receiving. I have remained a passionate, inquisitive observer and now actively use my strength as an empathetic person and the associated empathy to consciously perceive everyday life and the small and large things that happen in it and to deal with them, always with the vital question of why things are the way they are.

Since the beginning of 2019, I have therefore been dealing in my work with inconspicuous processes and events that have receded into the background, mostly about human feelings, psychological and sociological processes in interpersonal dealings, or philosophical approaches, to name a few examples.

I try to understand more complex processes, simplify them through abstraction and present them in a new visual context. I combine semi-realistic stylistic components with abstract, sometimes expressionistic elements to represent the interplay of perception and reality. Symbols, shapes, and colors are explicitly used to convey emotions. The abstract elements also partly express my rational thinking, which encounters a strong empathy and a tendency to romanticize.

The aim is to take up and re-present topics and motifs that are already associated with them, while creating more space than usual for overlooked details and thus giving the viewer a visual incentive to focus on the marginalia that do not appear so relevant at first glance.

In which style and with which media I create my works depends strongly on the topic. I make a new decision for each subject, I let the topic and the motif I am already familiar with work with me and tell me in which form it would like its story to be retold.

This is also why various styles, stylistic means, and media can be found in my work. The results of my work and the relationships to my artworks are as individual as the impressions and motifs that inspire me.

Each artwork tells its own story and is simultaneously a reflection of my personal impressions and thoughts on it.
